Richard Weber (explorer)
Richard Weber, (born June 9, 1959 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian Arctic and polar adventurer. From 1978 to 2006, he organized and led more than 45 Arctic expeditions. Richard is the only person to have completed six full North Pole expeditions. Biography Richard comes from a family of dedicated cross country skiers. He started skiing at the age of two and competing at six. He became a member of Canada's National Cross-Country Ski Team in 1977 and represented Canada in World Championships in 1977, 1979, 1982 and 1985. He retired from cross-country skiing in 1985 (with twenty national titles) and has since been dedicated to Polar and Arctic expeditions. Through the years, Richard has collected several firsts: * In 1986, in the ''Will Steger International Polar Expedition'', with teammates Paul Schurke, Geoff Carroll, Will Steger and Ann Bancroft and Brent Boddy. Richard Weber (mathematician)
Richard Robert Weber (born 25 February 1953) is a mathematician working in operational research. He is Emeritus Churchill Professor of Mathematics for Operational Research in the Statistical Laboratory, University of Cambridge. Weber was educated at Walnut Hills High School, Solihull School and Downing College, Cambridge. He graduated in 1974, and completed his PhD in 1980 under the supervision of Peter Nash. He has been on the faculty of the University of Cambridge since 1978, and a fellow of Queens' College since 1977 where he has been Vice President from 1996–2007 and again from 2018–2020. He was appointed Churchill Professor in 1994, and he became Emeritus Churchill Professor on retirement in 2017. He was Director of the Statistical Laboratory from 1999 to 2009, and is a trustee of the Rollo Davidson Trust. He works on the mathematics of large complex systems subject to uncertainty. Richard Weber was an Irish poet, born 2 September 1932 in Dublin and dying 15 April 2020. Early life He was educated at Synge Street CBS and at the National College of Art in Dublin. Career He was librarian in the National College of Art and Design in Dublin and occasionally Lecturer in English there. He further held a variety of jobs, including that of lamplighter in London (1959), bookseller's assistant (London 1959, Dublin 1961), assistant editor ''The Bookseller'', London (1961), librarian at the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin (1961 - 1965). He was poet-in-residence at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1967; from 1967 to 1970 he was a visiting lecturer at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. Richard Weber is an American public servant currently serving as the General Counsel of the New York State Department of Financial Services. He was the 23rd Chief of Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) from April 1, 2012 to May 31, 2017. Early life and education A native of New York City, Weber graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and a J.D. from Touro Law School. Career Weber began his public service career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York from 1995 to 2005.
