Ultra Vivid Scene
Ultra Vivid Scene was an American alternative rock band, started by Kurt Ralske. Background Former Nothing But Happiness and Crash guitarist Ralske started Ultra Vivid Scene in 1987, was signed to 4AD Records in 1988, and released his first UVS EP, ''She Screamed'', in 1988. The debut album '' Ultra Vivid Scene'' released October 1988, was written, produced and performed entirely by Ralske, whose influences include The Velvet Underground and The Jesus and Mary Chain. The second album, '' Joy 1967-1990'', was released in April 1990. The same month they played their first tour dates in the United Kingdom. The last album, '' Rev'', was released in October 1992, and was performed by a band comprising Julius Klepacz (drums) and Jack Daley (bass) with Ralske on vocals and guitar. Julia Kent is a Canadian cellist and composer from Vancouver, Canada, and based in New York City, United States. She has performed as a member of Rasputina (band), Rasputina and with Antony and the Johnsons. Musical career Kent creates music using looped cello, found sounds, and electronics. Melora Creager (born March 25, 1966) is an American cello, cellist, singer-songwriter, performing artist and founder of the rock band Rasputina (band), Rasputina. Early life, beginnings and Rasputina Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri, and adopted by a graphic designer and physicist, Creager was raised in Emporia, Kansas. She started studying music at the age of 5, and at age 9 began playing the cello. Rasputina (band)
Rasputina is an American rock band based in New York City, known for their unconventional music style, as well as their fascination with historical allegories and fashion, especially those pertaining to the Victorian era. The group is fronted by cellist/vocalist Melora Creager, who writes the music and lyrics and creates art for the band's albums, singles, and website. History In 1989, Creager wrote a manifesto, and placed an ad in The Village Voice seeking women to form an electric cello choir. Julia Kent, then an editor at the Village Voice, was the first respondent. The original group of nine was whittled to three. They named themselves "Rasputina", after one of Creager's songs.
