The following is a list of the Recipients of Lithuanian National Prize. The Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts honors achievements in Lithuanian culture and arts. It is traditionally awarded on February 16, commemorating the Act of Independence of Lithuania. Lithuanian National Prize For Culture And Arts
The Lithuanian National Prize ( lt, Nacionalinė kultūros ir meno premija), established in 1989, is an award granted for achievements in culture and the arts. It has been awarded annually in six categories since 2006 (between 1989 and 2006 there were nine categories). The prize is formally bestowed on February 16, when the decorations and diplomas are presented to the laureates at Presidential Palace, commemorating the anniversary of the 1918 Act of Independence of Lithuania. The award honors significant recent achievements in cultural fields and works by artists or art collectives. Zita Žemaitytė
Zita (c. 1212 – 27 April 1272; also known as Sitha or Citha) is an Italian saint, the patron saint of maids and domestic servants. She is often appealed to in order to help find lost keys. She is often confused with St. Osyth or Ositha, an important English Saint with a town named after her. Zita entered domestic service at the age of twelve and served the same family for almost fifty years. Through her diligence and fidelity, she became a trusted and valued servant. She spent her days in doing ordinary things extraordinarily well. Zita was known for her kindness and generosity to the poor. Viktorija Daujotytė-Pakerienė is a Lithuanian literary critic and philologist. She has written more than 30 scientific monographs, as well as essays and Lithuanian language textbooks for general education and higher education. She has also written about culture, feminism, and society. She was awarded the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas, the fourth degree of the Order of the Lithuanian National Culture and Art, Unity, and National Progress, and other prizes. Petras Bingelis
Petras ( el, Πετράς) is the archaeological site of an ancient Minoan town on northeastern Crete. Geography Petras is just east of the modern Cretan town, Siteia. The site is situated on top of a small plateau and overlooks the sea north of Crete. Archaeology Metaxia Tsipopoulou began excavations at Petras in 1985. The main building, which was two stories when it stood, is 2800 square meters. Petras has a drainage system, double staircases, dadoes, frescoes and cut slab pavements. Marks appear on the architecture of double axes, stars, branches, double triangles and Linear A signs. Arvydas Šliogeris
Arvydas Šliogeris (; 12 September 1944 – 18 December 2019) was a Lithuanian philosopher, researcher of German existentialism, translator of philosophical texts, and essayist. Biography Arvydas Šliogeris was born and raised in a family of teachers. His father taught Latin and German languages, while his mother taught drawing and geography. The family lived in a countryside estate on the outskirts of the city, where they had a small farm and raised animals. He graduated with a gold medal from Panevėžys 2nd High School. From 1962 to 1967, he studied at the Faculty of Chemical Technology at Kaunas University of Technology. In 1970, he began working at the Faculty of Philosophy at Vilnius University, where he taught philosophy from 1973 to 2012 and became an associate professor in 1979. Petras Geniušas
Petras Geniušas (born 1961 in Vilnius) is a Lithuanian classical pianist. During his career he has worked with composers Alfred Schnittke, Bronius Kutavičius, Osvaldas Balakauskas and Leonid Desyatnikov, some of whom have dedicated several of their compositions to him. Geniushas' career as a teacher has included master classes in Tokyo and Osaka, the Swedish-Baltic master classes Academia Baltica, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has permanent teaching positions at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and the Yamaha Music Foundation's primary music school in Tokyo. For his wide-ranging musical accomplishments, Geniušas has been awarded the Lithuanian National Prize. Vladas Drėma
Vladas Drėma (born in Riga on 3 December 1910 – died in Vilnius on 4 January 1995) was one of the most prominent Lithuanian art historians, critics, and art conservation specialists. He is also a known artist. One of the most remembered publications of Vladas Drėma's is ''Dingęs Vilnius'' (''Lost Vilnius'', published in 1991). Biography In 1926–1931 Drėma attended an art studio run by Vytautas Kairiūkštis. After graduating from the Stefan Batory University in 1936, Drėma continued his studies in Warsaw. From 1932 he lectured in various schools. He founded ''Vilnius group'', that involved Lithuanian, Polish and Jewish artists. At first Drėma's works were influenced by cubism and constructivism. Kazys Bradūnas
Kazys Bradūnas (11 February 1917 – 9 February 2009) was a Lithuanian émigré poet and editor. He was born in Kiršai, in the Lithuania District of Ober Ost, a territory occupied by the German Empire. He graduated from Vilnius University where he studied Lithuanian language and literature. During the post-war period he lived in Displaced Persons camps in Germany. In 1944 Bradūnas emigrated to the U.S., and lived in Baltimore and Chicago. In 1995 he returned to Lithuania and then lived in the capital, Vilnius, until his death. Editorial work Bradūnas edited literary and cultural journals ''Literatūros lankai'', ''Aidai'' and the Saturday cultural supplement of the Lithuanian daily '' Draugas'' in Chicago. Valentinas Antanavičius (born 2 May 1936 in Kuklikiai, Lithuania) is a Lithuanian painter. In 1992 he won a Lithuanian national arts award. Gediminas Karalius
Gediminas ( la, Gedeminne, ; – December 1341) was the king or Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1315 or 1316 until his death. He is credited with founding this political entity and expanding its territory which later spanned the area ranging from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. Also seen as one of the most significant individuals in early Lithuanian history, he was responsible for both building Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, and establishing a dynasty that later came to rule other European countries such as Poland, Hungary and Bohemia.
