Ranji Trophy
The Ranji Trophy (also known as Mastercard Ranji Trophy for sponsorship reasons) is a domestic first-class cricket championship played in India between multiple teams representing regional and state cricket associations. Board of Control for Cricket in India founded Ranji trophy in 1935, since then it is annually organised across various grounds and stadiums in India. The competition currently consists of 38 teams, with all 28 states in India and four of the eight union territories having at least one representation. The competition is named after Ranjitsinhji who is the first Indian cricketer who played international cricket, he was also known as 'Ranji'. The Mumbai cricket team is the most successful team of this tournament by winning record 41 times. Madhya Pradesh cricket team is present title holder by winning 2021–22 Ranji Trophy. 1972–73 Ranji Trophy
The 1972–73 Ranji Trophy was the 39th season of the Ranji Trophy. Bombay won their 15th title in a row defeating Tamil Nadu in the final. Highlights * Bombay won their 15th successive Ranji Trophy. This is a record for the national championships in the Test countries. Bombay lost the 1973-74 semifinal to Karnataka on first innings lead. * 27 wickets fell on the second day of the Bombay - Tamil Nadu final at Chepauk. The match ended on the first ball of the third day * Ajit Wadekar captained Bombay to the title for the fourth time. He had already captained in the 1968-69, 1969-70 and 1971-72 finals. 1934–35 Ranji Trophy
The 1934–35 Ranji Trophy was the inaugural season of the Ranji Trophy. It was contested between 15 teams in four zones in a knockout format. Bombay defeated Northern India in the final. The opening match, between Madras and Mysore, reached a result on the first day. Highlights * The first match of the competition was held on 4 November 1934 between Madras and Mysore at Chepauk. M. Rajinder Goel
Rajinder Goel (20 September 1942 – 21 June 2020) was an Indian cricketer who holds the record for most wickets in Ranji Trophy, India's premier first class competition, despite which he was never selected to play for India. A left arm spinner, he represented Patiala, Southern Punjab, Delhi and Haryana in domestic cricket. The son of an assistant station master in the Indian Railways, Goel came up through the Vaish school and college in Rohtak. His first major success was for North Zone schools in 1957 when he took four wickets against West Zone in the final of the All-India schools tournament and was declared the best bowler of the competition. He made his Ranji debut in the next season. Goel credits his early success to his teacher and coach Kishan Dayal. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the national governing body for cricket in India. Its headquarters are situated at Cricket centre, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The BCCI is the richest governing body of cricket in the world and is part of the ''Big Three'' of international cricket, along with Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board. The board was formed in and is a consortium of state cricket associations. The state associations select their own representatives who in turn elect the BCCI president. Grant Govan was the first BCCI president and Anthony De Mello was its first secretary. It joined the Imperial Cricket Conference in the year 1926. Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is the governing body of Cricket in the Indian state of Karnataka. The association is affiliated to the Board of Control for Cricket in India and governs the Karnataka cricket team. The association was founded in 1933 and has been affiliated to the BCCI ever since. 2020–21 Ranji Trophy
The 2020–21 Ranji Trophy was scheduled to be the 87th season of the Ranji Trophy, the premier first-class cricket tournament in India. Saurashtra were the defending champions. However, in January 2021, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the season had been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the first time since the tournament's inception in the 1934–35 season that the Ranji Trophy was not held. Maharaja Sir Bhupinder Singh, (12 October 1891 – 23 March 1938) was an Indian royal and cricket player. He was the ruling Maharaja of the princely state of Patiala in British India from 1900 to 1938.
