Rail Electrification In Queensland
In the late 1970s and 1980s, a significant rail electrification program was completed in the Australian state of Queensland. The electrified Queensland network is the largest in Australia with over 2,000 kilometres electrified, the next biggest is New South Wales with 640 kilometres, that is served mainly as passenger operations. Today all suburban passenger services in South East Queensland are operated by Queensland Rail electric multiple units, as well as electric tilt train services as far as Rockhampton. An extensive network of freight lines are operated to service the Central Queensland coal networks is operated by Aurizon. The two networks are joined by the electrified North Coast line from Brisbane to Rockhampton, and the entire system is energised at 25 kV AC. SX Carriages
The SX carriages were a type of passenger carriages constructed by Commonwealth Engineering for the Queensland Railways in 1961-1962. History The SX carriage stainless steel bodyshells were constructed by Commonwealth Engineering, Granville with the fitout undertaken at Rocklea in 1961/62. They were built to operate suburban services on the Brisbane rail network. They shared many components with the New South Wales U set carriages. Initially hauled by steam and later diesel locomotives, provision was made for their conversion to electric multiple units once the network was electrified. Sixteen seven-carriage sets were completed. The conversion never occurred and they were gradually replaced from the 1980s as EMUs and SMUs entered service. The last was withdrawn on 2 December 1999. To allow extra services to be operated during the 1987 America's Cup yacht regatta in Fremantle, 14 were leased to Transperth in October 1986. Roma Street railway station is located in the Brisbane central business district, Queensland, Australia. It is the junction station for the North Coast, Main, Gold Coast and NSW North Coast lines. Corinda Railway Station
Corinda railway station is located on the Main line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Brisbane suburb of Corinda. History Corinda station opened in 1875 as South Brisbane Junction, being renamed Corinda in 1888. In 1884, a branch line was built from Corinda to the South Brisbane wharves. The branch line is now known as the Corinda-Yeerongpilly line. The station was rebuilt in 1960 as part of the quadruplication of the line from Roma Street. In 2010, the quadruplication was extended to Darra as part of the construction of the Springfield line. Pinkenba Railway Station
Pinkenba railway station was a railway station on the Pinkenba railway line in the suburb of Pinkenba, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was originally the terminus station of the Pinkenba Line, just from the Brisbane central business district and from Central station by rail. It opened in 1897 and was rebuilt in 1969, with a new station closer to the township of Pinkenba. The first station became a shunters' quarters. The line closed to all passenger traffic in 1993. Petrie Railway Station
Petrie railway station is located on the North Coast line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the suburb of Petrie in the Moreton Bay Region. It opened as North Pine railway station in1888 after the nearby North Pine River and was renamed Petrie railway station (after local pioneer Thomas Petrie) in 1911. The station has five platforms. As part of the Redcliffe Peninsula line, the station was expanded with a new island platform built east of the existing platforms. It opened along with the rest of the line on 4 October 2016. As part of the project, a third track was added south of the station to Lawnton. North of the station, the Redcliffe Peninsula line branches off. Ferny Grove Railway Station
Ferny Grove railway station is the terminus station of the Ferny Grove line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Brisbane suburb of Ferny Grove. The Brisbane Tramway Museum is a short walk south of the station. History The station opened in 1918 as part of the extension to Samford. The line formerly extended to Dayboro, but was cut back to Ferny Grove in 1955, as part of a larger rationalisation by the Queensland Government of its railway lines. The line now terminates here with bus services running to Samford during peak times. The station was upgraded in 2012 as part of the Keperra-Ferny Grove duplication project. The upgrade included relocating the platform, a new station building and car park. Sherwood Railway Station
Sherwood railway station was a station on the former Great Northern Railway Nottingham Suburban railway in Nottingham. The station lies within Woodthorpe Grange Park in Woodthorpe. The NSR was built mainly for the brickworks of Mapperley and Thornywood, however, there were passenger services to Daybrook and Sherwood Station. In 1905, Parry sold the estate to Godfrey Small a Nottingham City Councillor. Meanwhile, the railway was struggling with the opening of the electric tram from Nottingham City Centre to Sherwood. In 1916 the regular passenger service was withdrawn and Sherwood Station closed. Woodthorpe Grange Park opened to the public in 1922. Yeerongpilly Railway Station
Yeerongpilly railway station is located on the Beenleigh line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Brisbane suburb of Yeerongpilly. Immediately south-west of the station, the Corinda line branches off. To the west of the station lies the NSW North Coast dual gauge line primarily used by Gold Coast, NSW TrainLink XPT and freight services. History Yeerongpilly station opened in 1884 as Logan Junction with the opening of the railway to Loganlea. It was renamed South Coast Junction in 1885 and again to Yeerongpilly in 1893.
