Radulf, King Of Thuringia
Radulf was the Duke of Thuringia (''dux Thoringiae'') from 632 or 633 (certainly before 634) until his death after 642. According to the Chronicle of Fredegar, he was a son of one Chamar, a Frankish aristocrat, and rose to power under the Merovingian king Dagobert I, who appointed him as '' dux'' in the former Thuringian kingdom which Francia had conquered in 531. His installation was meant to protect the eastern border of the Frankish realm against the threatening Wends under Samo, who had defeated the king at the 631 Battle of Wogastisburg and formed an alliance with Dervan, prince of the Sorbian tribes settling in the adjacent region east of the Saale river. Radulf fought successfully against the Slavs, but subsequently refused the incorporation of the secured territories into the Austrasian kingdom. Radulf II, Duke Of Thuringia
Radulf or Ratolf (died before 880) was the Duke of Thuringia (or the Sorbian March) from 874 until his death. Radulf was the successor and possibly son of Thachulf. On Thachulf's death in August 873, the Sorbs, Siusli, and their neighbours revolted. Radulf and Liutbert, Archbishop of Mainz, crossed the Saale in January 874 and through a campaign of pillage and fire brought the Slavs into submission without a battle. Radulphus or simply Ralph was an early 13th-century bishop of Brechin, Scotland. He was elected to the bishopric as early as 1198 or 1199 when he appears as "bishop of Brechin" witnessing the nativity of the future king Alexander II. He may have been elected before that, for he was "elect" in the time of Gilbert, Prior of St Andrews St Andrews ( la, S. Andrea(s); sco, Saunt Aundraes; gd, Cill Rìmhinn) is a town on the east coast of Fife in Scotland, southeast of Dundee and northeast of Edinburgh. Radulphe (also spelled Radulph, Rodolphe, etc.) was a French monk who, without permission from his superiors, left his monastery in France and travelled to the Rhine Valley during the Second Crusade (1147–49) where he preached "that the Jews should be slain as the enemies of the Christian religion." At Cologne Simon "the Pious" was murdered and mutilated; at Speyer a woman was tortured on the rack to persuade her to Christianity. Secular prelates tried to protect the Jews. Arnold, the Archbishop of Cologne gave them a fortified castle as refuge, and allowed them to arm themselves; the Crusaders refrained from attacking the castle, but killed any unconverted Jew that fell into their clutches. Henry I, Archbishop of Mainz admitted into his house some Jews pursued by a mob; the mob forced its way in, and killed them before his eyes.
