Radstädter Tauern
The Radstadt Tauern (german: Radstädter Tauern) are a subrange of the Central Eastern Alps in Austria. Together with the Schladming Tauern, the Rottenmann and Wölz Tauern and the Seckau Tauern the Radstadt Tauern form the major range of mountains known as the Low Tauern. The mountains are found in the southeast of the Austrian state of Salzburg, between the upper reaches of the Enns and Mur rivers. Geography Location The Radstadt Tauern form the westernmost part of the Low Tauern range. They are bounded to the southwest by the High Tauern, to the northwest by the Salzburg Pongau region, and to the east by the Schladming Tauern. Their name is derived from the historic town of Radstadt in the Enns valley. Flachau
Flachau is a village in the district of St. Johann im Pongau in the Austrian state of Salzburg, with a population of 2,802 (2016 data). Its numerous skiing facilities are part of the Ski Amadé network of ski areas, one of the largest in Europe. History Up into the 19th century, Flachau was a center of iron smelting in the Pongau district. Remains of the works have since been demolished, and only street and house names remain as reminders. Flachau is home to a parish church consecrated on September 8th, 1722, which was built upon the request of the miners and smelters of the village. Alpine Club Classification Of The Eastern Alps
The Alpine Club classification of the Eastern Alps (german: Alpenvereinseinteilung der Ostalpen, AVE) is a common division of the Eastern Alps into 75 mountain ranges, based on the Moriggl Classification (ME) first published in 1924 by the German and Austrian Alpine Club. The present-day division established for the German-speaking world (less Switzerland) was compiled by the German, Austrian and South Tyrol Alpine Clubs and published in 1984 and is also used for the basic numbering of Alpine Club maps for mountaineering. Classification system The Eastern Alps are divided into four main areas: the Northern Limestone Alps, the Central Eastern Alps, the Southern Limestone Alps, and the Western Limestone Alps. ''Bundesstraße'' (German for "federal highway"), abbreviated ''B'', is the denotation for German and Austrian national highways. Mur Valley Railway
The ''Murtalbahn'' (literally translated, the Mur Valley Railway) is a narrow-gauge railway largely located in the state of Styria in Austria. The line runs along the valley of the River Mur from the market town of Unzmarkt through Murau to Tamsweg, which is just over the Styrian border in the state of Salzburg. The railway is operated by '' Steiermärkische Landesbahnen'' (a railway operator owned by the state of Styria) and, with a total length of , it is the fourth-longest narrow-gauge railway in Austria. History The railway line between Unzmarkt and Mauterndorf was opened in October 1894. In March 1973 the public passenger traffic was stopped on the section between Tamsweg and Mauterndorf. The Tauern Autobahn (A 10) is an Autobahns of Austria, autobahn (motorway) in Austria. It starts at the Salzburg junction with the West Autobahn (A1), runs southwards, crosses the Hohe Tauern, Tauern mountain range on the main chain of the Alps and leads to the Süd Autobahn (A2) and Karawanken Autobahn (A11) at Villach in Carinthia (state), Carinthia. Tauern Road Tunnel
The Tauern Road Tunnel is located on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) in the Austrian federal state of Salzburg. The use is subject to a toll. With a length of (4.07 miles), the tunnel ranks as one of the longest frequently-travelled road tunnels in Austria. Location The tunnel crosses under the Radstadt Tauern range, the westernmost part of the larger Low Tauern group. The north portal is in the municipality of Flachau in St. Johann im Pongau District (''Pongau'' region), while the southern entrance is in Zederhaus in the Salzburg district of Tamsweg (''Lungau''). Radstädter Tauern Pass
Radstädter Tauern Pass (el. 1,738 m or 5,702 ft) is a high mountain pass in the Austrian state of Salzburg, connecting the town of Radstadt in the Pongau region with Mauterndorf in Lungau. Geography The pass separates the Radstadt Tauern in the west and the Schladming Tauern in the east, both part of the Niedere Tauern mountain range in the Central Eastern Alps. It is crossed by the ''Katschberg Straße'' (B 99) road, which runs from Bischofshofen on the Salzach River via Radtstadt in the Enns Valley to Sankt Michael im Lungau on the Mur River. From Sankt Michael it leads further southwards across the Katschberg Pass to Spittal an der Drau in Carinthia. Grossarl (Großarl) is a market town in the St. Johann im Pongau district in the state of Salzburg in western central Austria. The valley Grossarltal got its name from Grossarl. Mauterndorf (Southern Bavarian: ''Mautndorf'') is a market town of the Tamsweg District in the Austrian state of Salzburg. The municipality also comprises the Katastralgemeinden ''Faningberg, Neuseß'' and ''Steindorf''.
