Routh is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated is approximately north-east of Beverley, lying on the A1035 road. According to the 2001 UK census, Routh parish had a population of 94. The parish church of All Saints is a Grade II* listed building. Governance Routh is represented locally by Tickton and Routh Parish Council a joint council with the adjacent parish of Tickton. while at county level is in the Beverley Rural ward of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. Sir Randolph Isham Routh (21 December 1782 – 29 November 1858) was a British Army officer reaching the rank of Commissary-General. He was senior Commissariat officer at the Battle of Waterloo. Early life Routh was born at Poole, Dorset, the 7th child, of The Honourable Richard Routh, Chief Justice of Newfoundland, and his wife, Abigail Eppes. Three previous sons had died in infancy, so Randolph Isham was the fourth surviving child. His Father immigrated to Salem, Massachusetts in 1764 at the age of 15 to take up the post of Assistant Customs Collector, and he married there Abigail Eppes of the Eppes family of Virginia. During the War of Independence, he took the Loyalist side and his refugee family itinerancy resulted in children being born in Salem, Boston, Long Island, New York, and Halifax. Ida May Routh (12 July 1934 – 1 June 2022) was a British-American costume designer. Routh was born in India, where she grew up in Jabalpur. She relocated to England for her education, graduating from the Saint Martin's School of Art. She first worked as a fashion illustrator, with her work appearing in the magazines ''Vogue'' and ''Elle''. In 1969, she was offered a position by her former boyfriend Brian Duffy as an assistant to costume designer Anthony Mendleson for the film ''Oh! What a Lovely War'' (1969). Ruth McEnery Stuart (1849–1917) was an American author. Early life and marriage She was born Mary Routh McEnery Stuart, child of James and Mary Routh (Stirling) McEnery in Marksville, Louisiana. (She changed the spelling of her name to "Ruth" after she began her career in literature.) Stuart's true date of birth is not known with certainty. Martin Joseph Routh (, ; 18 September 175522 December 1854) was an English classical scholar and President of Magdalen College, Oxford (1791–1854). Birthplace and Oxford career Routh was born at South Elmham, Suffolk, son of the Rev. Peter Routh, rector there, and his wife, Mary Reynolds. He matriculated at The Queen's College, Oxford, on 31 May 1770 and on 24 July 1771, was elected to a demyship at Magdalen College. He graduated B.A. on 5 February 1774 and was elected on 25 July 1775 to a fellowship of his college. On 23 October 1776 he took an MA, proceeding B.D. in 1786, and D.D. on 6 July 1790.
