Rossano
Rossano is a town and '' frazione'' of Corigliano-Rossano in the province of Cosenza, Calabria, southern Italy. The city is situated on an eminence from the Gulf of Taranto. The town is known for its marble and alabaster quarries. The town is the seat of a Catholic archbishop and has a notable cathedral and castle. Two popes have been born in the town, along with Nilus the Younger. History ''Roscianum'' was the original name of the town under the Roman Empire. In the second century AD, emperor Hadrian built or rebuilt a port here, which could accommodate up to 300 ships. It was mentioned in the Antonine itineraries, as one of the important fortresses of Calabria. The Goths of Alaric I and, in the following century, Totila, were unable to take it. The Rossanesi showed great attachment to the Byzantine Empire, whose local ''strategos'' had his seat here. Rossano Di Vaglio
Vaglio Basilicata is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Potenza, in the Southern Italian region of Basilicata. It is bounded by the comuni of Albano di Lucania, Brindisi Montagna, Cancellara, Pietragalla, Potenza, Tolve and Tricarico. It is home to the Museo delle Antiche Genti di Lucania (Museum of the Ancient People of Lucania), which houses the Lucan portrait of Leonardo da Vinci, an alleged portrait of Leonardo da Vinci discovered in 2008. Also in the municipal territory is Archaeological Park "Serra di Vaglio", with remains of a Lucan town (including several princely tombs) from the 5th-3rd centuries BC. At Rossano di Vaglio are the remains of the federal sanctuary of the Lucani (used from the 5th century BC onwards) and dedicated to the goddess Mefitis. The Rossano Gospels, designated by 042 or Σ (in the Gregory-Aland numbering), ε 18 ( Soden), held at the cathedral of Rossano in Italy, is a 6th-century illuminated manuscript Gospel Book written following the reconquest of the Italian peninsula by the Byzantine Empire. Also known as Codex purpureus Rossanensis due to the reddish-purple (''purpureus'' in Latin) appearance of its pages, the codex is one of the oldest surviving illuminated manuscripts of the New Testament. The manuscript is famous for its prefatory cycle of miniatures of subjects from the '' Life of Christ'', arranged in two tiers on the page, sometimes with small Old Testament prophet portraits below, prefiguring and pointing up to events described in the New Testament scene above. Federigo Rossano
Federigo or Federico Rossano (31 August 1835 – 5 May 1912) was an Italian painter in a Realist style. Biography Rossano was born in Naples, and studied painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Naples, at the objection of his father, a former soldier in the army of Murat, and who wished his son to study architecture. He was influenced by the School of Posillipo, and the style Filippo Palizzi, but developed his own subject matter. He painted many seascapes at the island of Ischia. Other influences were Gennaro Ruo, Giacinto Gigante, and Vincenzo Volpe. In 1858, De Gregorio, invited him to Resina where he stayed at a room in what was once the Palazzo Reale. He also met there the painters Giuseppe De Nittis and Adriano Cecioni. Together with Marco de Gregorio, this group formed what was called the School of Resina He traveled to Paris with De Nittis, and in 1876 he exhibited the canvas ''Covoni'' at the Paris Salon. Geoffrey Louis Rossano was an American author and historian with an emphasis on aviation, maritime and military history. He died after a long struggle with kidney failure on July 23, 2021. He lived in Salisbury, Connecticut, and was an instructor in history at the Salisbury School and the school archivist. He was the 2010 winner of the Theodore and Franklin D. Herval Abreu Pais (April 23, 1935 – May 8, 2007), better known by his stage name Herval Rossano, was a Brazilian TV actor and director from Campos dos Goytacazes. He directed both the original 1976 version and the 2004 remake of ''Isaura the Slave''. He was a cinema actor and his first movie was ''Luzes nas Sombras'' in 1952, in which he played a very small role. Despite the small roles in movies and of the little payment he received for them, he participated in two productions every year.
