The House of Rosetti (also spelled ''Ruset'', ''Rosset, Rossetti'') was a Moldavian boyar princely family of Byzantine Greek and Italian ( Genoese) origins. There are several branches of the family named after their estates: Roznovanu, Solescu, Bălănescu, Răducanu, Ciortescu, Tescanu, and Bibica. The Rosetti family in Wallachia is another branch of the family who initially settled in Moldavia. Elena Cuza
Elena Cuza (17 June 1825 – 2 April 1909), also known under her semi-official title Elena Doamna, was a Moldavian, later Romanian noblewoman and Philanthropy, philanthropist. She was princess consort of the United Principalities and the wife of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the first Romanian prince. Biography Born in Iași, as a member of a high-ranking Boyar Rosetti family, she was the daughter of ''Postelnic'' Prince Iordache Rosetti-Solescu (1796-1846) and his wife, Princess Ecaterina Sturdza family, Sturdza (d. 1869). By blood, she was closely related to almost all Romanian nobility, Romanian noble families. In 1844 she married Cuza — their relationship soured soon after, as Elena was not able to bear a child. Alexandru Rosetti
Alexandru Rosetti (October 20, 1895 – February 27, 1990) was a Romanian linguist, editor, and memoirist. Born in Bucharest, his parents were Petre Rosetti Bălănescu, a lawyer and landowner, and his wife Zoe (''née'' Cornescu), whose father wrote the 1874 ''Manualul vânătorului'', prefaced with ''Pseudo-cynegeticos'' by Alexandru Odobescu. He attended primary school in Câmpulung, followed by his native city's Gheorghe Lazăr High School, from which he graduated in 1914. Between 1916 and 1920, he studied at the literature faculty of the University of Bucharest. His time there was interrupted by World War I: sent to the front, he was wounded in 1917 during the Battle of Mărășești. His professors included Ovid Densusianu, Ioan Bianu, , and Dimitrie Onciul. Friedrich Paulus
Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst Paulus (23 September 1890 – 1 February 1957) was a German ''Generalfeldmarschall'' (Field Marshal) during World War II who is best known for his surrender of the German 6th Army (Wehrmacht), 6th Army during the Battle of Stalingrad (July 1942 to February 1943). The battle ended in disaster for the ''Wehrmacht'' when Soviet forces encircled the Germans within the city, leading to the ultimate death or capture of most of the 265,000-strong 6th Army, their Axis powers, Axis allies, and Hiwi (volunteer), collaborators. Paulus fought in World War I and saw action in Western Front (World War I), France and the Balkans Campaign (World War I), Balkans. Maria Tescanu Rosetti
Maria Tescanu Rosetti (1879–1968), was a Romanian aristocrat and royal court official. Life Born in Berești-Tazlău, Bacău County, she was a descendant of some illustrious Moldavian boyar families. Her father Dumitru was descended from the Rosetti family, and from her mother, Alice Rosetti-Tescanus, from the Negri-Jora, and both were well-known intellectuals. Dumitru was a philosopher, sociologist, publicist, translator of Vasile Conta's work into French, and her mother, known to have collected "one of the most valuable libraries of the time" was a pianist connoisseur of universal music and literature. Theodor Rosetti
Prince Theodor Rosetti (; 5 May 1837 – 17 July 1923) was a Romanian writer, journalist and politician who served as Prime Minister of Romania between 23 March 1888 and 22 March 1889, with two cabinets formed. Over his life, he also served several other roles within the judicial and government. He is an aristocrat and member of the House of Rosetti. He was born in Iași or Solești, Moldavia. He was brother-in-law of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the former ruler of Romania and was considered to be on the conservative pro-monarchy side of the government. Rosetti was one of the most important members of the Junimea literary society and was elected honorary member of the Romanian Academy in 1891. Nicolae Rosetti-Bălănescu
Prince Nicolae Rosetti-Bălănescu (6 December 1827 – 11 May 1884) was a lawyer and Romanian politician who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Principality of Romania from 29 August 1863 until 29 October 1865. Rosetti-Bălănescu was born in Iași, Moldavia. He came from a larger aristocratic Rosetti family, which to distinguish themselves split into four smaller families: Rosetti-Solescu, Rosetti-Roznovanu, Rosetti-Tescanu and Rosetti-Bălănescu. He studied in Paris at Lycée Henri-IV and then at the Paris Law Faculty, after which he returned to Romania. His wife, Olga, divorced him and then married another diplomat, Petre Mavrogheni. Towards the end of his life he went back to Paris, where he died. He is buried at Montparnasse Cemetery in Paris. Princess Maria Rosetti (born Marie Grant; 1819 – ) was a Guernsey born Wallachian and Romanian political activist, journalist, essayist, philanthropist and socialite. The sister of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, British diplomat Effingham Grant and wife of Liberalism and radicalism in Romania, radical leader C. A. Rosetti, she played an active part in the Wallachian Revolution of 1848. Moldavia
Moldavia (, or ; in Romanian Cyrillic alphabet, Romanian Cyrillic: or ) is a historical region and former principality in Eastern Europe, corresponding to the territory between the Eastern Carpathians and the Dniester River.
