Roberta Fiandino
Roberta Fiandino (born October 17, 1985 in Cuneo) is a retired Italian biathlete. Fiandino competed in the 2010 Winter Olympics for Italy. She finished 11th as a part of the Italian women's relay team, and 73rd in the sprint. As of February 2013, her best performance at the Biathlon World Championships is 5th, as part of the Italian mixed relay team, in 2008. Her best individual result at the Biathlon World Championships is 25th, in the 2008 and 2011 individual races. As of February 2013, Fiandino's best result at a Biathlon World Cup event is 5th, with the Italian women's relay team at Antholz in 2010/11. Her best individual performance in a Biathlon World Cup event is 16th, in the sprint at Antholz in 2008/09. The Biathlon World Cup is a top-level biathlon season-long competition series. It has been held since the winter seasons of 1977–78 Biathlon World Cup, 1977–78 for men and 1982–83 Biathlon World Cup, 1982–83 for women. The women's seasons until 1986–87 Biathlon World Cup, 1986–87 season were called the European Cup, although participation was not restricted to Europeans. Competition and format The World Cup season lasts from November or December to late March, with meetings in a different venue every week excluding some holidays and a couple of weeks before the season's major championships (World Championships or Winter Olympics). Biathlon World Championships 2011
The 44th Biathlon World Championships was held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia from March 3–13, 2011. There was a total of 11 competitions: sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start, and relay races for men and women, and mixed relay. All the events during this championships also counted for the 2010–11 Biathlon World Cup season. Championship highlights The Championships kicked off with the Mixed relay event which is seeking to make its way onto the Olympic programme for the 2014 games in Sochi. As the first event of the programme, it was finally given importance by the different teams, with all nations fielding their best teams, in difference to earlier world cup events. The Norwegians won it, overtaking Germany on the last leg. The veteran Ole Einar Bjørndalen won his fifteenth world championship gold medal in the process and his first in the mixed relay, giving him a full set of gold medals in the six events that are currently contested.
