Region Of Southern Denmark
The Region of Southern Denmark (, ; , ; ) is an administrative region of Denmark established on Monday 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform, which abolished the traditional counties ("amter") and set up five larger regions. At the same time, smaller municipalities were merged into larger units, cutting the number of municipalities from 270 ( 271 before 2006) before 1 January 2007 to 98. The reform diminished the power of the regional level dramatically in favor of the local level and the central government in Copenhagen. The Region of Southern Denmark has 22 municipalities. The reform was implemented in Denmark on 1 January 2007, although the merger of the Funish municipalities of Ærøskøbing and Marstal, being a part of the reform, was given the go-ahead to be implemented on Sunday 1 January 2006, one year before the main reform. Regions Of Denmark
The five Regions of Denmark () were created as administrative entities at a level above the municipalities and below the central government in the public sector as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform, when the 13 Counties of Denmark, counties (''Amt (country subdivision), amter'') were abolished. At the same time, the number of municipalities (''Commune (country subdivision), kommuner'') was cut from 270 (Ærø Municipality, from 271 in 2006) to Municipalities of Denmark, 98. The reform was approved and made into a law by the lawmakers in the Folketing 26 June 2005 with 2005 Danish local elections, elections to the 98 municipalities and 5 regions being held Tuesday 15 November 2005. Middelfart Municipality
Middelfart Municipality () is a ''Municipalities of Denmark, kommune'' in the Region of Southern Denmark, located on the west coast of the island of Funen in southern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 297 km² and has a total population of 40,318 (2025). Statistics Denmark
Statistics Denmark () is a Danish governmental organization under the Ministry of the Interior and Housing, reporting to the Minister of Economic and Internal Affairs. The organization is responsible for creating statistics on the Danish society, including employment statistics, trade balance, and demographics. Bo Libergren
Bo Libergren (born April 29, 1969) is a Danish politician, representing the Liberal party '' Venstre'' who in November 2023 was elected as chairman of the regional council of the Region of Southern Denmark having previously been serving as acting chairman in the same capacity from March until July 2023. He was elected to the county council of Funen County in 1994 and returned in 1998 and 2001. From 2001 to 2006 he served as chairman of the county's newly created committee of disease prevention. In the Danish municipal elections on 15 November 2005 he stood for the new regional council of the Region of Southern Denmark and was elected, more than tripling his number of votes from the election in 2001. Ærø Municipality () is a '' kommune'' occupying the 88 km² island of Ærø in Denmark in the Region of Southern Denmark as of 1 January 2007, and in 2006 in Funen County. The municipality also encompasses Birkholm and the uninhabited islands Lilleø, Dejrø and Halmø. Vejle Municipality
Vejle Municipality () is a '' kommune'' in the Region of Southern Denmark on the Jutland peninsula in southeast Denmark. The municipality covers an area of (2013), and has a population of 122,433 (1. Vejen
Vejen with a population of 10,416 (1 January 2025) is the main town in Vejen Municipality, Denmark. Geography The town is situated in the Danish region of Region of Southern Denmark, Syddanmark between the cities of Kolding and Esbjerg. It is a railway town located at the Lunderskov–Esbjerg railway line, railway line between Kolding and Esbjerg. Varde
Varde is a Danish city in southwestern Jutland and is the primary city in the municipality of Varde, in Region of Southern Denmark. In 2015 municipality changed its motto to "We in nature" to emphasize its rural atmosphere. The town has an old market environment and is located by Varde River, Varde stream/river and is a short distance away from the beaches by the North Sea. These features make it a tourist destination. Tønder
Tønder (; ) is a town in the Region of Southern Denmark. With a population of 7,477 (as of 1 January 2025), it is the main town and the administrative seat of the Tønder Municipality. History The first mention of Tønder might have been in the mid-12th century, when the Arab geographer Muhammad al-Idrisi mentioned the landmark ''Tu(r)ndira'', which might have been a reference to either Tønder, or the nearby town of Møgeltønder. Tønder was granted port privileges by the Hanseatic League in 1243, making it Denmark's oldest privileged market town.
