''Pippi on the Run'' (original Swedish title: ''På rymmen med Pippi Långstrump'') is a 1970 Swedish/West German movie, sequel of '' Pippi in the South Seas'' with the cast of the 1969 TV series ''Pippi Longstocking''. It is the last entry in the original TV and movie series and the only one to not be based on any of the previous books witten by Astrid Lindgren. Lindgren eventually wrote a book adaptation of the movie. It was released in the US in 1977. Plot Fed up with their strict parents, Tommy and Annika run away from home, with their friend Pippi Longstocking to look after them in their long trek. Nils Olof "Olle" Hellbom (8 October 1925 – 5 June 1982) was a Swedish film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is most famous for directing films based on novels by Astrid Lindgren. His 1960 film '' Alla vi barn i Bullerbyn'' was entered into the 2nd Moscow International Film Festival. In 1978 at the 14th Guldbagge Awards he won the award for Best Director for his film '' The Brothers Lionheart''. He died of stomach cancer. Pippi Longstocking ( sv, Pippi Långstrump) is the fictional main character in an eponymous series of children's books by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. Pippi was named by Lindgren's daughter Karin, who asked her mother for a get-well story when she was off school. Pippi is red-haired, freckled, unconventional and superhumanly strong – able to lift her horse one-handed. She is playful and unpredictable. She often makes fun of unreasonable adults, especially if they are pompous and condescending. Her anger comes out in extreme cases, such as when a man mistreats his horse. Pippi, like Peter Pan, does not want to grow up. She is the daughter of a buccaneer captain and has adventure stories to tell about that, too. Her four best friends are her horse and monkey, and the neighbours' children, Tommy and Annika.
