"Pretend" is a popular music, popular song, written in 1952 by Dan Belloc, Lew Douglas, Cliff Parman and Frank Levere. The best-known recording, by Nat King Cole, was released by Capitol Records as catalog number 2346. It first reached the ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' Best Seller chart on January 31, 1953, and lasted 20 weeks on the chart, peaking at No. 3. It also reached No. 2 in the UK Singles Chart in May 1953, just behind Frankie Laine's chart topping hit, "I Believe (1953 song), I Believe". Cole would later re-record the song for his 1961 album ''The Nat King Cole Story''. The recording by Ralph Marterie was released by Mercury Records as catalog number 70045. Coral Records
Coral Records was a subsidiary of Decca Records that was formed in 1949. Coral released music by Patsy Cline, Buddy Holly, the McGuire Sisters and Teresa Brewer. Coral issued jazz and swing music in the 1940s, but after Bob Thiele became head of the label in 1954, he produced pop and rock musicians such as Buddy Holly, Jackie Wilson, Lawrence Welk, and Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé. He also produced hit songs by his wife, Teresa Brewer. Coral stopped issuing new material in 1971. In 1973, MCA amalgamated Decca, Kapp Records, and Uni Records under the single MCA Records banner, and Coral was repositioned as a mid-line and budget album reissue label in the U.S. and internationally. Gerry and the Pacemakers were a British beat group prominent in the 1960s Merseybeat scene. In common with the Beatles, they came from Liverpool, were managed by Brian Epstein, and were recorded by George Martin. The Tielman Brothers was the first Dutch-Indonesian band to successfully venture into the international music scene in the 1950s.
