Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with the song "Amar" written by José da Ponte, Alexandre Honrado and Ernesto Leite. The song was performed by the duo 2B, which was internally selected by the Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) to represent the nation at the 2005 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. 2B and "Amar" were announced as the Portuguese entry on 22 March 2005 and the song was presented to the public on 1 April 2005. Portugal competed in the semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 19 May 2005. 2B was a Portuguese band formed by Luciana Abreu and Rui Drumond. It represented Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kyiv with the song " Amar" (To love). The duo was formed exclusively to represent Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest (2005). Moldova debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with the song "Boonika bate doba" written by Mihai Gîncu and Roman Iagupov. The song was performed by the band Zdob și Zdub. ''Operação Triunfo (OT)'' is the Portuguese version of the original Star Academy (in the original Spanish version of the reality show ''Operación Triunfo'' broadcast by RTP). The first two seasons were hosted by Catarina Furtado, and the other two seasons were presented by Sílvia Alberto. The Portuguese version follows the regular format, with the 12-20 students being put into a music academy and training songs for a week, and singing in the "Gala" at the end of the week, usually on Saturdays. A jury composed by four personalities of the music world will judge the students performances and nominate four of them. Of those four, one is saved by the professors and another is saved by the students. The two remaining students are up for elimination. In the following week, one of the two nominees is saved.
