Adelaide Football Club (AFL Women's) is a professional Australian rules football team based in Alberton, South Australia. The team plays in the AFL Women's (AFLW) competition. The team is part of the Port Adelaide Football Club. In May 2021, the club was granted a license by the AFL to compete in the league from the start of the 2022/23 season. The team will play its home games out of Alberton Oval, in Alberton, South Australia. History Early women's Football The earliest recorded instance of the Port Adelaide Football Club fielding a Women's side was in 1918 for a match played on Alberton Oval to raise funds for the Port Adelaide Workers Memorial against a team representing Thebarton. Port Adelaide was captained by Eileen Reid. The Adelaide Crows (officially the Adelaide Football Club) are a professional Australian rules football team based in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 1990. The Crows has fielded a men's team in the Australian Football League (AFL) since 1991, and a women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW) competition since 2017. The club's offices and training facilities are located in the western Adelaide suburb of West Lakes, South Australia, West Lakes, at the site of the club's former home ground Football Park. Gemma Houghton
Gemma Houghton (born 31 December 1993) is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the AFL Women's competition. Houghton was recruited by Fremantle as a free agent in October 2016. She had never played AFL before, having been found through a talent search open to all athletes. She previously played high level basketball. Houghton made her debut in the thirty-two point loss to the at VU Whitten Oval in the opening round of the 2017 season. She played every match in her debut season to finish with seven matches. Playing for the Swan Districts Football Club in the 2018 WAFL Women's competition, Houghton won the Mandy McSherry Medal, the teams best and fairest award. Maria Moloney
Maria Moloney (born 29 March 1995) is an Australian rules footballer playing for Port Adelaide in the AFL Women's competition (AFLW). She was playing for University of Queensland in the AFL Queensland Women's League when she was drafted by Brisbane with the 75th pick in the 2019 AFL Women's draft. Angela Foley (born 13 December 1988) is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). She previously played for the Adelaide Football Club from 2017 to 2022. A defender, tall, Foley plays primarily on the half-back line with the ability to push into the midfield. After spending her early life in country Victoria, in which she won a premiership and best and fairest with Bendigo Thunder, she moved to Darwin in 2013. Greg Phillips (born 26 March 1959) is a former Australian rules football player who played for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He also played 20 interstate matches for South Australia. Port Adelaide (1976–1982) Greg Phillips started his career in 1976 at Port Adelaide and was a key member of their defence during a successful era for the club. Rachael Sporn
Rachael Pamela Sporn (born 26 May 1968, in Murrayville) is an Australian former basketball player and three time Olympian. Sporn was Development Executive for the Australian Melanoma Research Foundation but has since left the organisation. Career Born in Murrayville, Victoria, Sporn played for Adelaide Lightning in Australia's Women's National Basketball League where she was twice league MVP and seven times selected in the WNBL All-Star Five. Juliet Haslam
Juliet Haslam OAM (born 31 May 1969 in Adelaide, South Australia) is a former field hockey defender and midfielder from Australia, who competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1992, for her native country. She was a member of the Australia women's national field hockey team, best known as the ''Hockeyroos'', that won the gold medals at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics.
