The politics of Belgium take place in the framework of a federal, representative democratic, constitutional monarchy. The King of the Belgians is the head of state, and the prime minister of Belgium is the head of government, in a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Federal legislative power is vested in both the government and the two chambers of parliament, the Senate and the Chamber of Representatives. ''Salamander'' is a Belgian crime drama television series, created by and based upon the novel by Bavo Dhooge, that was first broadcast on Eén on 30 December 2012. The twelve-part series, produced by Skyline Entertainment and written by Ward Hulselmans, stars Filip Peeters as Inspector Paul Gerardi, a Belgian detective who investigates the theft of sixty-six safety deposit boxes belonging to prominent Belgian figures. It was broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC Four from 8 February 2014. Leterme I Government
The Leterme I Government was the federal government of Belgium from 20 March 2008 to 22 December 2008. It took office when the Flemish Christian democrat Yves Leterme ( CD&V) was sworn in as Prime Minister. It followed the Belgian general election of 2007 and comprised five parties: the Dutch-speaking Christian Democratic and Flemish (CD&V), the Dutch-speaking Open Flemish Liberals and Democrats (Open VLD), the French-speaking liberal Reformist Movement (MR), the French-speaking Socialist Party (PS) and the French-speaking Humanist Democratic Centre (CDH). The government received the confidence of the Chamber of Representatives on 22 March 2008, with 97 votes in favour, 48 against, and one abstaining. Carolorégienne Affair
Between 2005 and 2007, many court cases implicated personalities of the municipal government in the city of Charleroi in Belgium. In October 2006, mayor Jacques Van Gompel of the PS was jailed on fraud and forgery charges. 3Léon Casaert, also of the PS, became the new mayor, elected by PS, MR and cdH majorities. The MR resigned from the coalition just before the 2007 general election, citing official charges of corruption leveled against a PS alderman in Charleroi. 4 The impact and impact are significant at local, regional and even national level. Elio Di Rupo, president of the Socialist Party even attributed the defeat of his party in the 2007 Belgian federal election to the scandal. Victor Jacobs
Philippe Marie Victor Jacobs ( Antwerp, 18 January 1838 - Saint-Gilles, 20 December 1891) was a Belgian politician and Minister for the Catholic Party. Biography He was the son of Pierre Jacobs and Marie Van Merlen. Pierre was president of the Bar of Lawyers in Antwerp. Victor married Valentine Bernard. He graduated in 1860 and a doctorate in law and settled from 1860 to 1876 as a lawyer in Antwerp, then from 1877 to 1891 in Brussels. Jacobs holds a degree in doctor of law. He was a high-level manager in several companies, including banks, coal mines, and railways. From 1863 to 1890, he was a member of the Chamber of Representatives for the district of Antwerp: first for the Antwerp Meeting Party and then for the Catholic Party. In 1870, Jacobs served on an interim basis as Minister of Public Works. He also served from 1870 to 1871 as Minister of Finance. He also served as the Minister of Interior and Public Education.
