Photography In Bangladesh
Photography in Bangladesh began with the creation of Bangladesh through the liberation war of 1971, against Pakistan. At the time, inevitably, war time photography was of utmost prominence, which has also largely helped document history. Since the war, photography and photojournalism have come to include and cover a large array of subjects including landscape, politics, wildlife, fashion etc. Photography was introduced and developed as an institutional and academic discipline through personal efforts, without any significant assistance or support from the government. Bangladesh liberation Photography during the liberation war predominantly documented two things: the tyranny, abuse and genocide carried out by the Pakistani army; and the preparation, training and struggle of the people, largely civilians, for freedom. Aftab Ahmed (photojournalist)
Aftab Ahmed (c. 1934 – 25 December 2013) was a Bangladeshi photojournalist. He served as chief photographer of Bengali newspaper ''The Daily Ittefaq''. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2006 by the Government of Bangladesh. Career Ahmed started his career as photojournalist in ''The Daily Ittefaq'' in 1962. He took photographs during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. Personal life Ahmed was married to Momtaz begum (died 29 June 2010). They had one son Monowar Ahmed and one daughter Afroz Ahmed. Death On 24 December 2013 Ahmed was found dead at his house in West Rampura region in Dhaka. According to the police, his hands and legs were tied up and a gag was wrapped around his mouth when his body was found. Naib Uddin Ahmed (1925 – 14 December 2009) was a Bangladeshi photographer best known for his work during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Manzoor Alam Beg
Manzoor Alam Beg ( bn, মনজুর আলম বেগ; 1 October 193126 July 1998) was a Bangladeshi photographer. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2007 by the Government of Bangladesh. Personal life Beg was the third child of Professor Husam Uddin Beg (from Murshidabad of West Bengal), and Zaheda Chowdhury (from Rajshahi of East Bengal). Professor Husam Uddin Beg was the Principal of B M College in Barisal. Beg married Walida Chowdhury on 17 March 1963. They had three children: photographer Iftekhar Alam Beg, photographer Imtiaz Alam Beg, and Ishtiaque Alam Beg. Beg's eldest brother Mahmood Alam Beg was the Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, which is the central bank of Bangladesh. His younger brother Captain Mahfuz Alam Beg was the Sub-sector Commander of Sector 9 in the independence war of Bangladesh in 1971. Amanul Haque (photographer)
Amanul Haque (c. 19253 April 2013) was a Bangladeshi photographer. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2011 by the Government of Bangladesh. Career Haque joined Dhaka Medical College as an artist-photographer. He used to sketch human organs for medical students. During Bengali Language Movement in 1952, he took photographs of events with his camera which include the photograph of bullet-riddled body of activist Rafiq Uddin Ahmed. Haque worked with Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray as still photographer in the film Pather Panchali ''Pather Panchali'' (; ) is a 1955 Indian Bengali-language drama film written and directed by Satyajit Ray and produced by the Government of West Bengal. Anwar Hossain (photographer)
Anwar Hossain (6 October 1948 – 1 December 2018) was a Bangladeshi photographer and cinematographer. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Cinematography a record five times for the films Sundori (1979), Emiler Goenda Bahini (1980), Puraskar (1983), Anya Jibon (1995) and Lalsalu (2003). Early life and education Hossain was born in Old Dhaka in 1948. He completed his SSC from Armanitola Government High School and HSC from Notre Dame College, Dhaka in 1965 and 1967 respectively. He graduated in architecture from BUET and a diploma in cinematography from the Film and Television Institute of Pune, India. Career Hossain started his photography career in 1967. His photography captured the Liberation War of Bangladesh. Hossain worked as a cinematographer of total 15 fictions and 30 documentary films. Rashid Talukder
Rashid Talukder (24 October 1939 – 25 October 2011) was a Bangladeshi photojournalist for ''The Daily Ittefaq'', most known for capturing some of the defining images of the genocide during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. Talukder was a founder of the Bangladesh Photo Journalists' Association. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Chobi Mela, an international photography festival in Dhaka, in 2006, and the 2010 the 'Pioneer Photographer Award' given by National Geographic magazine. Early life and education Born 24 October 1939 in Baj Baj, near Calcutta (now Kolkata) in Pargana (now 24 Parganas), Bengal Presidency, British India (now in West Bengal, India).
