Philippine Ten-centavo Coin
The ten-sentimo coin (10¢) coin is a denomination of the Philippine peso. It was the oldest denomination under 1 peso in the country's circulation, having been introduced in 1880 during the Spanish rule of the islands until it stopped being minted in 2017. The denomination remains legal tender until the demonetization of the BSP Coin Series. History Spanish administration The first coin worth one tenth of a peso was the 10 ''centimo'' coin of 1864-1888 issued under Queen Isabel II of Spain, followed by 10 centimos of 1880-1885 issued under King Alfonso XII. The latter obverse was inscribed 'Alfonso XII por La G(racia) de Dios' (Alfonso XII, by the Grace of God) and the year of minting. The reverse featured the coat of arms of Castille and Kingdom of León. Around it was the inscription 'Rey de Espana' (King of Spain) and the denomination as 10 Cs. de Po. The Philippine peso, also referred to by its Tagalog name ''piso'' (Philippine English: , , plural pesos; tl, piso ; sign: ₱; code: PHP), is the official currency of the Philippines. It is subdivided into 100 ''sentimo'', also called centavos. The Philippine peso sign is denoted by the symbol "₱", introduced under American rule in place of the original peso sign "$" used throughout Spanish America. Alternative symbols used are "PHP", "PhP", "Php", or just "P". The monetary policy of the Philippines is conducted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), established on July 3, 1993, as its central bank. Pandaka Pygmaea
The dwarf pygmy goby or Philippine goby (''Pandaka pygmaea'') is a tropical species of fish in the subfamily Gobionellinae from brackish water and mangrove areas in Southeast Asia. It is one of the smallest fish species in the world. Males reach maturity at a standard length of and can reach up to in standard length, while the females can grow up to in total length. Adults weigh around . It is known as ''bia'' and ''tabios'' in the Philippines., ''Guide to the Philippine Flora and Fauna, Band IX'', (undated). Distribution and habitat ''P. pygmaea'' was initially reported as being endemic to Malabon, Metro Manila in the Philippines, where found at shady river banks. The species has now been extirpated from this area as it was reclaimed, leading to its status as critically endangered by the IUCN.
