Pete Mitchell (broadcaster)
Pete Mitchell (11 December 1958 – 12 March 2020) was a British radio DJ and presenter. He was born in Crumpsall, Manchester. Mitchell was a radio presenter for Manchester's Piccadilly Radio, Key 103, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X and Absolute Radio, and was one half of duo Pete and Geoff on Virgin Radio (which later became Absolute Radio). His music documentaries have been aired in the US, Canada, Australia and Asia. He later worked for the relaunched Virgin Radio and wrote for the ''Radio Times'', the ''Daily Express'' and ''Q'' magazine. Mitchell began his career in 1986 as a sports commentator for Red Rose Radio in Lancashire. He moved to Manchester's Piccadilly Radio in 1989 and, as the station gained a new identity and became Key 103, presented the popular afternoon show and developed, wrote and produced ''IQ'', his own specialist weekend music programme. Peter Mitchell (born 14 June, 1960) is an Australian television presenter. He has been the chief news presenter for HSV-7 of their flagship bulletin "''Seven News Melbourne"'' since the year 2000, and prior to that, he was the weekend news presenter. Career Mitchell began at the Nine Network in 1977 as a sport reporter. In this position he covered sports such as Australian rules football, golf, tennis and the Commonwealth Games. In 1982, Peter became a general news reporter and in this position he covered many stories including Victoria's horrific Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983. In 1987, Mitchell joined the Seven Network and became weekend news presenter. He held this position for 13 years until November 2000 when he replaced David Johnston and Anne Fulwood as the solo weeknight presenter. Peter Mitchell (born 1943) is a British documentary photographer, known for documenting Leeds and the surrounding area for more than 40 years. Mitchell's photographs have been published in three monographs of his own. His work was exhibited at Impressions Gallery in 1979, and nearly thirty years later was included in major survey exhibitions throughout the UK including at Tate Britain and Media Space in London, and the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford. Mitchell's work is held in the permanent collections of the Royal Photographic Society and Leeds Art Gallery. Life and work Mitchell was born in Manchester in 1943. Peter Mitchell (born 12 January 1990 in London, England) is an English track cyclist, specialising in the individual and team sprints. In 2009, he was named in the Team Sky+ HD track cycling team alongside names such as Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendelton. In November 2012 it was announced that Mitchell was joining the British paralympic cycling squad as a pilot for the tandem events. Mitchell teamed up with Paralympic gold medallist and multiple world champion Neil Fachie for the 2013 British National Track Championships, where they were second in both the kilo time trial and the 200-metre flying start time trial for mixed blind/visually impaired competitors. In addition he scored a solo second place in the sprint, being defeated in the final by Jason Kenny. Fachie and Mitchell continued their partnership for the 2014 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Peter Robert Mitchell (born 6 April 1958) is an English professional golfer. Mitchell was born in London. He turned professional at an early age in 1974, working in a club job before embarking on a tournament career several years later. He made his first appearance on the European Tour in 1979 and his last in 2003. In the early years he had difficulties holding on to his tour card, but in the thirteen-year stretch from 1988 to 2000 he finished in the top eighty of the European Tour Order of Merit every season, with a highest ranking of 12th in 1996. That same year he made his only appearance in the World Cup of Golf. He won three European Tour events: the 1992 Mitsubishi Austrian Open, the 1997 Madeira Island Open and the 1998 Portuguese Open. Upon turning 50 in 2008, Mitchell joined the European Seniors Tour. He won three times during his rookie season, finishing in 3rd place on the Order of Merit, and won again the following year. Peter Mitchell-Thomson, 2nd Baron Selsdon (28 May 1913 – 7 February 1963) won the 1949 24 Hours of Le Mans together with Luigi Chinetti in a Ferrari 166 MM. He was the son of William Lowson Mitchell-Thomson, 1st Baron Selsdon (1877–1938) and (Anne) Madeleine Mitchell-Thomson, Lady Selsdon (1887–1946), and the father of Malcolm McEacharn Mitchell-Thomson, 3rd Baron Selsdon (b. 1937). Racing career Pre-war Mitchell-Thomson's mother Anne, Lady Selsdon, was an active supporter of British club racing, particularly for Frazer Nash. She provided competition cups for the Frazer-Nash car club. She entered an un-blown Frazer Nash for him to drive at Brooklands, and would stand in the pits opening golf umbrellas adorned with various symbols in order to pass information onto him during races. Peter Mitchell (January 4, 1824 – October 25, 1899) was a Canadian politician and one of the Fathers of Confederation. Family In 1853, he married Mrs. Gough, a widow of St. John, New Brunswick; she died in 1889. His nephew was Charles R. Mitchell a former provincial Cabinet Minister and leader of the Alberta Liberal Party. Life He was born of Scottish parents at Newcastle in the county of Northumberland, New Brunswick, on January 4, 1824. He was educated at the Quebec grammar school; he studied law and was called to the bar of the province of New Brunswick in 1848. He practised his profession for five years and then entered into a partnership with a Mr. Hawe in the business of lumbering and shipbuilding. Sir Peter Chalmers Mitchell (23 November 1864 – 2 July 1945) was a Scottish zoologist who was Secretary of the Zoological Society of London from 1903 to 1935. During this time, he directed the policy of the Zoological Gardens of London and created the world's first open zoological park, ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. Early life Peter Chalmers Mitchell was the son of the Rev. Alexander Mitchell, a Presbyterian minister in Dunfermline, Scotland, and Marion Chalmers. Mitchell gained an MA at the University of Aberdeen, and moved to Christ Church, Oxford, where he read for natural science, specialising in zoology.
