The ''PFL 6'' mixed martial arts event for the 2022 season of the Professional Fighters League was held on July 1, 2022, at the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. This marked the sixth regular season event of the tournament and included fights in the Women's Lightweight and Welterweight divisions. Background The event was to be headlined by a women's lightweight clash between the 2019 and 2021 champion Kayla Harrison will face former Bellator Women's Featherweight Champion Julia Budd. However, a week before the event, Budd pulled out due to injury and was replaced by Kaitlin Young. The co-main event featured former Bellator Welterweight champion Rory MacDonald face off against Sadibou Sy. The rest of the main card saw a welterweight bout between 2019 and 2021 champion Ray Cooper III against Bellator MMA and ACA vet Brett Cooper while Magomed Magomedkerimov was scheduled to face off against João Zeferino. Professional Fighters League
The Professional Fighters League (PFL) is an American mixed martial arts league founded by venture capitalist Donn Davis in 2017 and launched in 2018, following the acquisition and restructuring of the former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) promotion in 2017 by MMAX Investment Partners. It is the first major MMA organization in which individual athletes compete in a regular season, post-season and championship, rather than on a year-round basis. The PFL currently puts on fights across six weight-divisions: featherweight, women's lightweight, lightweight, welterweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. The PFL's matches are held inside a 10-sided mixed martial arts cage known as the SmartCage, and adhere to the unified rules of mixed martial arts, with the exception of the prohibition of elbow strikes. Raynald "Ray" Cooper III (born February 7, 1993) is an American mixed martial artist currently competing in the Welterweight division of the Professional Fighters League (PFL), where he is the two-time Welterweight champion.
