Pseudoeurycea Mystax
''Pseudoeurycea mystax'' is a species of salamander in the family Plethodontidae. It is endemic to Mexico and only known from the area of its type locality in the Sierra Madre de Oaxaca near Ayutla, Oaxaca. Its common name is mustache false brook salamander or mustached false brook salamander. The specific name refers to the whitish protuberances on the lips that resemble a mustache in the frontal view of the male holotype. Description The type series consists of two specimens, the male holotype measuring and the female allotype in snout–vent length. The tail is shorter than the body, with total lengths of about for the two specimens, respectively. The limbs are moderately short and stout. The dorsum is gray in its ground color with faint traces of pink especially on the snout, and with scattered black dots. The tail has some conspicuous, large white blotches. Habitat and conservation Its natural habitat are pine–oak and ''Arbutus'' forests at elevations of about ab ... Pseudoeurycea Cochranae
''Pseudoeurycea cochranae'' is a species of salamander in the family Plethodontidae. It is endemic to the Sierra Madre del Sur and Sierra Madre de Oaxaca of central and west-central Oaxaca, Mexico. Etymology The specific name ''cochranae'' honors Doris Mable Cochran, an American herpetologist. Habitat Its natural habitats are pine and pine-oak forests at elevations of above sea level. It is a terrestrial salamander that hides under bark and in leaf-litter. It tolerates some degree of habitat disturbance and is sometimes found in rural gardens and selectively logged lots. It is threatened by habitat loss caused by extensive agricultural expansion Agricultural expansion describes the growth of agricultural land ( arable land, pastures, etc.) especially in the 20th and 21st centuries. The agricultural expansion is often explained as a direct consequence of the global increase in food and e ..., human settlements, and logging. References cochranae Endemic amphibians of Me ... Pseudoeurycea Lynchi
''Pseudoeurycea lynchi'', commonly known as the Veracruz green salamander, is a species of salamanders in the family Plethodontidae. Etymology The specific name ''lynchi'' honors Dr. (1942–1988), a "friend and long-time collaborator". (Not John D. Lynch as sometimes claimed.) Description Adult males measure and females in snout–vent length (SVL). The tail is relatively stout, tapering rather abruptly toward the tip, and is about the same length as the SVL (range 86–115 %). The hands and feet are comparatively well developed. The coloration of the dorsum is variable: dark green, green-ochre, pale yellow-green, tannish yellow, or in some populations, even blue-gray. The ground color is black, and there are usually many black spots and short streaks. The tail is usually paler than the body and ends with a bright yellow to reddish orange tip. Some individuals have a distinct, shallow V-shaped yellowish band between the eyes. The limb insertions are greenish yellow. The ven ... Pseudoeurycea Lineola
''Pseudoeurycea lineola'', commonly known as the Veracruz worm salamander or Mexican slender salamander, is a species of salamander in the family Plethodontidae. It is endemic to the eastern slope of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt near Cuautlapan, in the west-central Veracruz, Mexico, at elevations of above sea level. Molecular evidence suggests that it consists of two distinct species. It was the type species of genus ''Lineatriton''. Description Males measure and females in snout–vent length. The average tail length is for males and females, respectively. The males have white (unpigemented) testes and vasa deferentia. Habitat and conservation Natural habitats of ''Pseudoeurycea lineola'' are pine-oak forests, but it can also survive in shaded coffee plantations. It is a terrestrial species found beneath stones, logs and other debris, and in subterranean situations. Pseudoeurycea Leprosa
''Pseudoeurycea leprosa'' is a species of salamander in the family Plethodontidae, endemic to Mexico. The species of ''Pseudoeurycea Leprosa'' are primarily distributed across Northern and central Mexico, with new species continually emerging that share genetic similarities with preexisting ones. Research scientist's discovered these similarities by analyzing the base pairs of various ''Pseudoeurycea'' species from different regions of Mexico. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is threatened by habitat loss. Pseudoeurycea Goebeli
''Pseudoeurycea goebeli'' is a species of salamander in the family Plethodontidae. It is found in Guatemala and Mexico. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. These salamanders live at an elevation of 2400–2900 meters in the cloud forest. Researchers have found that their mating and spermiogenesis do not depend on temporal changes like other salamanders in that area. Another unique fact about these specific salamanders is that even though they have mating opportunities throughout the year and they are active all year, they are seasonal egg-layers.
