President Of Chad
This is a list of presidents of Chad since the country gained independence from France in 1960 to the present day. A total of eight people have served as head of state of Chad, including two interim heads of state. Additionally, Goukouni Oueddei, has served two non-consecutive terms. The first president was François Tombalbaye, who had the backing of France. The current head of state of Chad is President of the Transitional Military Council Mahamat Déby, since 20 April 2021 following the death of his father, Idriss Déby. Coat Of Arms Of Chad
The coat of arms of Chad was adopted in 1970. The center has a shield with jagged blue and yellow lines (''barry dancetty''), with a sun rising over it. The shield is supported by a goat and a lion. Below the shield is a medal and a scroll with the national motto in French, Unité, Travail, Progrès ("Unity, Work, Progress" in English). The shield supporters as well as the scroll feature a red arrow pointing upwards. Overview The wavy lines on the shield symbolize Lake Chad; the crest, a rising sun, a new beginning for the country. The supporter on the left is a goat, representing the northern half of the state; the southern half is represented by the lion supporting the shield on the right. Idriss Déby
Idriss Déby Itno ( '; 18 June 1952 – 20 April 2021) was a Chadian politician and military officer who was the sixth List of heads of state of Chad, president of Chad from 1991 until his death in 2021 during the 2021 Northern Chad offensive, Northern Chad offensive. His term of office of more than 30 years makes him Chad's longest-serving president. Déby was a member of the Bidayat dialect, Bidayat clan of the Zaghawa people, Zaghawa ethnic group. A high-ranking commander of President Hissène Habré's military during the 1980s, Déby played important roles in the Toyota War which led to Chad's victory during the Chadian–Libyan War, Chadian-Libyan War. He was later purged by Habré after being suspected of plotting a coup, and was forced into exile in Libya. The politics of Chad take place in a framework of a semi-presidential republic, whereby the President of Chad is the head of state and the prime minister is the head of government. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. Chad is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. In May 2013, security forces in Chad foiled a coup against the President Idriss Deby that had been in preparation for several months. In April 2021, President Déby was injured by the rebel group Front Pour l'Alternance et La Concorde au Tchad (FACT). He succumbed to his injuries on April 20, 2021. Vice President Of Chad
The vice president of Chad (, ) was a political position in Chad from 1975 to 1982, from 1990 to 1991 and from 2021 to 2022. There were no provisions defined for succession during the regime of Hissène Habré until 1989. A revision to the constitution in 2020 created again the position of a Vice President appointed by the President of Chad. However, the position was never filled. According to the previous Constitution of Chad, the president of the National Assembly is the successor of President of Chad in case of a vacancy. 2021 Northern Chad Offensive
The Northern Chad offensive was a military offensive in Northern Chad, initiated by the Chadian rebel group Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT), took place from 11 April to 9 May 2021. It began in the Tibesti Region in the north of the country following the 2021 Chadian presidential election. Chadian President Idriss Déby was injured during the offensive on 19 April 2021 and died the next day, and his son Mahamat Déby became acting President of Chad on the same day. A special presidential election was expected in 2022, but was not held until 2024. The offensive ended in a Chadian military victory, though clashes continued in the country's north. The Transitional Military Council (, CMT; , ''al-Majlis al-‘askarī al-intiqālī'') was a military junta that ruled Chad from 2021 to 2022.
