New Brunswick Electoral Redistribution, 1973
The 1973 New Brunswick electoral redistribution was the most radical redistricting, redistribution of electoral districts in the history of New Brunswick, Canada. Under this redistribution, New Brunswick changed from a mixture of multi-member districts and single-member districts to a scheme of only single-member districts, from Plurality-at-large voting, bloc voting electoral system to first past the post. As the number of members per district had been re-evaluated as recently as New Brunswick electoral redistribution, 1967, 1967, the number of members was not changed, and multi-member districts were simply subdivided to form single-member districts. Prior to the redistribution, New Brunswick had had the longest and deepest experience of multi-member districts of any province in Canada. Moncton Northwest
Moncton Northwest () is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was first be contested in the 1995 general election, having been created in the 1994 redistribution of electoral boundaries with the name Moncton Crescent. The district was first created in 1995 out of Petitcodiac, then the most populous electoral district in the province. It took its name from the fact that its shape was a crescent over the north of the city of Moncton. It lost much of its easternmost territory in the 2006 redistribution and lost much of its crescent shape. Dennis Cochrane
Dennis H. Cochrane, CM (born 26 October 1950 in Moncton, New Brunswick) is a Canadian politician and civil servant. He graduated from the New Brunswick Teacher's College in 1970, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Brunswick in 1974, received a Bachelor of Education in 1974 and a Master of Education in 1981 from the University of Moncton. He was elected to the Moncton City Council in 1977 and he was elected Mayor of Moncton in 1979, being re-elected in 1980. In 1983, he was Councillor-at-Large of Moncton. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada representing the riding of Moncton in the 1984 as a Progressive Conservative (PC). He was defeated in 1988. Hollis Steeves (March 5, 1935 – January 19, 2019) is a farmer and former political figure in New Brunswick, Canada. He represented Petitcodiac in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1987 to 1991 and from 1995 to 1999 as a Liberal member. Wally Stiles
R. Wallis "Wally" Stiles (born October 18, 1950 in Sussex, New Brunswick, Canada) is a New Brunswick politician. He represented the electoral district of Petitcodiac in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1999–2010. On September 17, 2005, he married fellow MLA Joan MacAlpine making them the first husband and wife to serve together in the New Brunswick legislature. Sherry Wilson is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the 2014 provincial election. Since 2024, she represents the electoral district of Albert-Riverview as a member of the Progressive Conservatives. She was first elected as the MLA for Moncton Southwest in 2010 and was re-elected in the 2014, 2018, and 2020 provincial elections. The 2013 New Brunswick electoral redistribution was undertaken through the process set out in the ''Electoral Boundaries and Representation Act'' of New Brunswick, Canada. The legislation establishes a statutory requirement for redistricting, redistribution of electoral district (Canada), electoral districts after every second List of post-confederation New Brunswick general elections, New Brunswick general election. A commission was struck to draw 49 electoral districts, a decrease from 55 districts, which will first be used in the 2014 New Brunswick general election, 2014 provincial election. The 49 boundaries will have to be within the range of 95% to 105% of the 1/49th of the number of registered voters in the province except in "extraordinary circumstances".
