Peter Hoffmann (historian)
Peter C. W. Hoffmann (born 1930) is a German-Canadian historian who is the William Kingsford Professor in the Department of History at McGill University. His principal area of research deals with the German resistance against Nazism, and in particular, the resistance efforts of Claus von Stauffenberg. Hoffmann lives in Canada and in Germany. Life Hoffmann was born in Dresden, Germany, on 13 August 1930 and grew up in Stuttgart. He is the son of , a former director of the Wurtemberg State Library and University Library of Tübingen. Peter Hoffmann (born 1 July 1, 1956) is an Edinburgh author and former international sportsman. Early life and education Born in Edinburgh, Peter Hoffmann was brought up in Oxgangs, Edinburgh and educated at Hunters Tryst Primary School and Boroughmuir High School. His mother attended the University of Edinburgh in 1954, and his father was a chief officer in the merchant navy who trained at the Edinburgh shipping company, Ben Line Agencies. In 1976 Hoffmann began studying for a degree in English and sports science and recreation management at Loughborough University but decided to leave shortly after starting the course. He instead graduated from Edinburgh Napier University with a BA in Business Studies (1981) and Dunfermline College of Physical Education with a postgraduate Diploma Recreation and Leisure Practice (1983). Peter Hofmann (22 August 1944 – 30 November 2010) was a German tenor who had a successful performance career within the fields of opera, rock, pop, and musical theatre. He first rose to prominence as a heldentenor at the Bayreuth festival's ''Jahrhundertring'' (''Centenary Ring'') in 1976, where he drew critical acclaim for his performance of Siegmund in Richard Wagner's ''Die Walküre''. He was active as one of the world's leading Wagnerian tenors over the next decade, performing roles like Lohengrin, Parsifal, Siegfried, and Tristan at major opera houses and festivals internationally. He is known for his work on the adventure strips ''Steve Roper'' (later ''Steve Roper and Mike Nomad'') and ''Jeff Cobb''. Biography Early life Born in Toledo, Ohio, the youngest of four children of Rose and Abraham Hoffman, Hoffman showed artistic talent early, publishing an Old West-themed drawing in the ''Toledo Times'' when just a kindergartner at Warren School. He attended the University of Toledo, where he earned a bachelor's degree in advertising and marketing while cartooning for the student newspaper and serving as art editor of the yearbook. After working for six months as an advertising artist for a local department store, Hoffman served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in England during World War II, achieving the rank of captain and receiving the Bronze Star Medal. Peter Hovmand (born 31 January 1974, in Copenhagen) is a Danish–Greenlandic writer and photographer. Son of Estrella and Mads Hovmand, grandson of film director Annelise Hovmand. After serving his first period as a soldier Peter Hovmand got his high school diploma in Gentofte. Later on he took an MA in Comparative Literature from the University of Copenhagen with a focus on Nordic, German and French literature. Over the years he served as a combat soldier in five different regiments: 4° Regiment Etranger, 2° Regiment Etranger de Parachutistes, Dronningens Livregiment (now closed), Sjællandske Livregiment (now closed) and Den Kongelige Livgarde.
