Panesthia Triangulifera
''Panesthia'' is a large genus of burrowing giant cockroaches in the subfamily Panesthiinae. Species of the genus are subsocial and are mainly found in Southeast Asia, coastal East Asia, Australasia, and Indo-Malaysia. Many species feed on wood, the best-studied being ''Panesthia angustipennis.'' Until recently it was believed that ''Panesthia'' and other members of ''Panesthiinae'' do not rely on the hindgut for wood digestion, but it is now believed that a "fiber-associated microbiome" might be contributing to up to 1/5th of the total xylanase and cellulase activities in the gut of ''P. angustipennis''. Jean Guillaume Audinet-Serville
Jean Guillaume Audinet-Serville (; his name, before the French Revolution, Revolution, included a Nobiliary particle, particle: Audinet de Serville) was a French entomologist, born on 11 November 1775 in Paris. He died on 27 March 1858 in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre. Life and career He was introduced to entomology by Madame de Grostête-Tigny who was fascinated, like her husband, by chemistry and insects. Through her, Audinet-Serville met Pierre André Latreille (1762–1833). Latreille worked with him on the ''Dictionnaire des Insectes de l’Encyclopédie méthodique'' ("The Methodical Encyclopedia Dictionary of Insects"). Then, working with Guillaume-Antoine Olivier (1756–1814), he finished the book ''Faune française'' ("French Fauna") in 1830. Audinet-Serville is particularly known for his work on the Orthoptera. He published, ''Revue méthodique de l’ordre des Orthoptères'' ("Methodical Review of the Order of Orthoptera") which appeared in ''Annales des sciences naturelles' ... Panesthia Lata
''Panesthia lata'', the Lord Howe Island wood-feeding cockroach or Lord Howe Island cockroach, is a large, wingless cockroach species endemic to the Lord Howe Island Group in the Tasman Sea. Appearance and diet ''Panesthia lata'' is reasonably large, growing between . It is metallic in colour, with general black to reddish colouration. It can be distinguished from other related species by its abdominal morphology and the shape of its cerc The species feeds on rotting wood and leaf litter, and has micro-organisms in its digestive system to help break down cellulose. It stays in the ground during the day and feeds at night. Population While once widespread across the archipelago, it was removed from Lord Howe Island proper by rats introduced in 1918, and none had been found for over 80 years. Today, the largest known populations occur on nearby islets, including Blackburn Island, Roach Island and Ball's Pyramid. The species is classified as "Endangered" under the New South W ...
