Pandora's Box (BDSM)
Pandora's Box is a professional domination BDSM studio founded and managed for over a decade by Mistress Raven (who was at the time one of the most famous dominatrixes in America) in New York City. It has been the subject of the documentary ''Fetishes'' by Nick Broomfield, and a book by the photographic journalist Susan Meiselas, as well as the subject of numerous magazine and newspaper articles. In 2018, Susan Meiselas revisited the dungeon once again to photograph it for Garage Magazine in an article about BDSM and high fashion, featuring some of the current Mistresses that worked there at the time. Its premises are a large basement facility in the Chelsea district of Manhattan. In 2006 it absorbed another domination studio, Den of Iniquity. Fetishes (documentary)
''Fetishes'' is a 1996 documentary by Nick Broomfield filmed at Pandora's Box, one of New York City's most luxurious SM/ fetish parlours. The film contains interviews with professional dominatrices and their clients including the New York filmmaker Maria Beatty. The documentary opens with black and white footage from an Irving Klaw film depicting models, including Bettie Page, wearing fetish attire. Nick Broomfield and his film crew then arrive at Pandora's Box on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue and are given a tour of the facility by Mistress Raven, including the dungeon and the medical room. Nick Broomfield
Nicholas Broomfield (born 1948) is an English documentary film director. His self-reflective style has been regarded as influential to many later filmmakers. In the early 21st century, he began to use non-actors in scripted works, which he calls "Direct Cinema". His output ranges from studies of entertainers to political works such as examinations of South Africa before and after the end of apartheid and the rise of the black-majority government of Nelson Mandela and the African National Congress party. Broomfield generally works with a minimal crew, recording sound himself and using one or two camera operators. Susan Meiselas (born June 21, 1948) is an American documentary photographer. She has been associated with Magnum Photos since 1976 and been a full member since 1980. Currently she is the President of the Magnum Foundation.
