Social Democratic Party (Romania)
The Social Democratic Party (, PSD) is the largest political party in Romania. It is also the largest Social democracy, social democratic List of political parties in Romania, political party in the country. It was founded by Ion Iliescu, Romania's first democratically elected president at the 1990 Romanian general election. It is a member of the Progressive Alliance (PA), which was founded in 2013, Socialist International (SI), and the Party of European Socialists (PES). As of 2015, the PSD had 530,000 members. PSD traces its origins to the Democratic National Salvation Front (FDSN), a leftist breakaway group established in 1992 from the centre-left National Salvation Front (Romania), National Salvation Front (FSN) established after 1989. The Social Liberal Union (, USL) was a grand coalition of several political parties which was active in Romania during the early to mid 2010s. The alliance contained two major political parties, one major centre-left and one centre-right, more specifically the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the National Liberal Party (PNL), respectively. Romania Forward Electoral Alliance
The Romania Forward Electoral Alliance (, A.Ro) was a social conservative electoral alliance in Romania, consisting of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR). The alliance supported the candidacy of former PNL leader Crin Antonescu during the 2025 Romanian presidential election, where he finished third with 20.07% vote. Following the results, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced that PSD would leave the coalition and resigned from the position of Prime Minister, which resulted in the coalition falling.
