Orders, Decorations, And Medals Of The Dominican Republic
The Dominican honours system is a means of rewarding individuals' personal bravery, achievement or service to the Dominican Republic. The system consists of two types of awards: decorations and medals. Brief history These were introduced within the Rafael Trujillo regime. Some of them were named after him; those were rescinded after his death on 30 May 1961. Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic ( ; es, República Dominicana, ) is a country located on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean region. It occupies the eastern five-eighths of the island, which it shares with Haiti, making Hispaniola one of only two Caribbean islands, along with Saint Martin, that is shared by two sovereign states. The Order of Merit of Duarte, Sánchez and Mella (''Orden al Mérito de Duarte, Sánchez y Mella'') is the principal order of the Dominican Republic. The Order of Christopher Columbus ( es, Orden Heráldica de Cristóbal Colón) is an order of the Dominican Republic. It was established on 21 July 1937. The Head of State confers the order, by advice of the council of the order, both to civilians and military personnel to recognize services. The Medal of Merit of the Dominican Woman is a decoration awarded by the Dominican government to women that were prominent in their social occupation. It was established by decree on 29 May 1985 to be conferred on 8 March of each year, the International Women's Day. The Order of Trujillo (''Orden de Trujillo'') was the second principal order of the Dominican Republic, after the Order of Merit of Duarte, Sánchez and Mella. It was established on 13 June 1938 in honour of the then-President Generalissimo Rafael Trujillo.
