Opheim is a village in Ål municipality in Buskerud, Norway. Opheim is situated in the north of the valley of Hallingdal. The traditional industry in the area is mostly agriculture with some forestry. The Lya River runs through the village and into the Hallingdalselva at Torpo. Lya Power Plant (''Lya kraftverk i Ål kommune'') is a hydroelectric power plant situated between Opheim and Torpo. It uses water flow from the Lya river for power generation by E-CO Energi E-CO Energi is a Norwegian power company and after Statkraft the second largest producer of electricity in Norway. Structure E-CO is wholly owned by the City of Oslo. Operations are divided into E-CO Vannkraft, E-CO Norne and Oslo Lysverker. .... Opheim, Montana
Opheim is a town in Valley County, Montana, United States. The population was 75 at the 2020 census. History *Opheim was named for Alfred Sumner Opheim (1872-1949), who together with his wife Helen (Ouandahl) Opheim (1874-1930), served as the first postmasters of the town. *The town was founded before the expansion of the Great Northern Railway, but benefited by having its own depot. In the early 1990s, railway abandonment occurred between the towns of Scobey and Opheim. *Opheim was once the location of Opheim Air Force Station, a former United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. Since its closing in 1979, the population has decreased significantly. *The city was also home to many banks, bars, stores, and a movie theater, all of which have changed hands or closed. Opheim Air Force Station (ADC ID: P-26, NORAD ID: Z-26) is a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. It is located west of Opheim, Montana. It was closed in 1979. History In late 1951 Air Defense Command selected Opheim, Montana as one of twenty-eight radar stations built as part of the second segment of the permanent radar surveillance network. Prompted by the start of the Korean War, on July 11, 1950, the Secretary of the Air Force asked the Secretary of Defense for approval to expedite construction of the second segment of the permanent network. Receiving the Defense Secretary's approval on July 21, the Air Force directed the Corps of Engineers to proceed with construction. On 1 March 1951 the 779th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron was activated at Opheim AFS with AN/FPS-3 and AN/FPS-4 radars, and initially the station functioned as a Ground-Control Intercept (GCI) and warning station.
