One-man Operation
One-person operation (OPO), also known as driver-only operation (DOO), one-man operation (OMO), single person train operation (SPTO), or one-person train operation (OPTO), similarly to Driver Controlled Operation, is operation of a train, bus, or tram by the driver alone, without a conductor. On one-person operated passenger trains, the engineer must be able to see the whole train to make sure that all the doors are safe for departure. On curved platforms a CCTV system, mirror or station dispatch staff are required. Although extra infrastructure such as cameras and mirrors might require additional investment, one-person operation is usually faster and cheaper to implement than automatic train operation, requiring a smaller investment in, for example, platform intruder detection systems and track protection (fencing, bridge-caging, CCTV etc.). A dead man's switch (see alternative names) is a switch that is designed to be activated or deactivated if the human operator becomes incapacitated, such as through death, loss of consciousness, or being bodily removed from control. Originally applied to switches on a vehicle or machine, it has since come to be used to describe other intangible uses, as in computer software. These switches are usually used as a form of fail-safe where they stop a machine with no operator from a potentially dangerous action or incapacitate a device as a result of accident, malfunction, or misuse. Great Southern (train)
The ''Great Southern'' is an Australian experiential tourism train operated by Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions between Adelaide and Brisbane both ways. The inaugural journey departed from Adelaide on 6 December 2019. While Roma Street station handles all long-distance rail services to and from Brisbane, the ''Great Southern'' does not operate to Roma Street due to the length of the train. Instead, the service terminates at a freight terminal located in the southern suburb of Acacia Ridge. London Underground A Stock (District Railway)
The A Stock cars were built for the District Railway by Brush Traction in 1903. They were the prototype electric units tested by the District Railway. History Of the total of fourteen cars, four were End Driving Motors, located at the ends of each unit, two were Middle Driving Motors, located in the middle of the unit, and eight were trailers. Later, two of the trailers were rebuilt into Control Trailers. These units were wooden-bodied and led to the development of the London Underground B Stock, B Stock. They were initially used between Acton Town and South Harrow, and starting from 1905 were used on the South Acton railway station (England), South Acton - Hounslow service, extended to Uxbridge in 1910.
