Ohr (record Label)
Ohr ("Ear") was an influential German electronic/experimental record label set up by Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser in 1970. Ohr released the debut albums of Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze. History The first five Ohr releases featured sleeves by Reinhard Hippen, all with dismembered baby doll parts as a central aspect of the imagery. These were Tangerine Dream's ''Electronic Meditation'', Bernt Witthüser's ''Lieder von Vampiren...'', Embryo's ''Opal'', Floh de Cologne's ''FliesbandbabysBeatShow'', and Limbus 4's ''Mandalas''. Other releases included Klaus Schulze, Ash Ra Tempel, Cosmic Jokers, Guru Guru, Popol Vuh, Sergius Golowin, Amon Düül, Birth Control, Witthüser & Westrupp, and numerous others. Ohr Label
''Ohr'' ("Light" he, אור; plural: ''Ohros/Ohrot'' "Lights" ) is a central Kabbalistic term in the Jewish mystical tradition. The analogy of physical light is used as a way of describing metaphysics, metaphysical Divine emanations. ''Shefa'' ("Flow" and its derivative, ''Hashpoah'' "Influence" ) is sometimes alternatively used in Kabbalah, a term also used in Medieval Jewish philosophy to mean Divine influence, while the Kabbalists favour ''Ohr'' because its Gematria, numerical value equals ''Raz'' ("mystery"). It is one of the two main metaphors in Kabbalah for understanding God in Judaism, Divinity, along with the other metaphor of the human soul-body relationship for the Sephirot. Pilz (record Label)
Pilz (German for ‘mushroom’) was a German record label, set up in Berlin in 1971 by German music mogul Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser, who also established the label Ohr (record label), Ohr. History Pilz was a sublabel of BASF, a major record company in Germany at that time. A number of artists who released records on Pilz, such as Witthuser & Westrupp, also put out music on Ohr and/or Cosmic Couriers, another of Kaiser’s record labels. The label’s logo was a mushroom, found on the sleeves and on the labels of the records. In all, there were 20 albums and 7 singles released on Pilz. Most were psychedelic or cosmic rock with folk influences. Lyrics/vocals were sometimes in German, although some of the albums were purely instrumental. Mythos (band)
Mythos was a German band formed in Berlin by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Stephan Kaske, bassist Harold Weiße and drummer Thomas Hildebrand in 1969. All doing their A level at the same school, the self-taught musicians released their eponymous debut in 1971. Influenced by Pink Floyd, Ash Ra Tempel and Hawkwind the album draws on science fiction and ecological themes particularly noticeable on the closing track "Encyclopedia Terrae". The release saw the band support Family, Colosseum at a festival and Humble Pie at their show iBerlin 1971 however after three years the band split. Kaske then recruited Axel Brauer on drums and Michael Krantz on bass. The band wrote and played live for two years but failed to record and split up. On his own Kaske signed, as Mythos, to Cosmic Chorus, and recorded various TV and film soundtracks before recording ''DreamLab'' in 1975. Witthüser & Westrupp
Witthüser & Westrupp was a German singer-songwriter duo from Essen. The guitarist Bernd Witthüser (1944-2017) and the multi-instrumentalist Walter Westrupp (* 1946) had their roots in the folk and protest song movement, and their joint titles initially had macabre, later predominantly psychedelic elements. The band was formed in June 1969 as "''W&W's pop cabaret''", singing German texts in a special way. In 1970 the name changed to "Witthüser & Westrupp". Their music was attributed to the genre of psychedelic folk and later to krautrock. Their best-known album became the 1971 concept album ''Der Jesuspilz'', in which an undefined substance ("der Brösel") becomes a symbol of the divine. The duo existed from 1969 to 1973. Later, Bernd Witthüser lived in Murci (Italy) until his death, while he was working as the street musician ''Bärnelli'' in Europe. ''Electronic Meditation'' is the first major release and first studio album by German electronic music group Tangerine Dream. It was released in June 1970 by record label Ohr. Recording and history The album was recorded in a rented factory in Berlin in October 1969, using just a two-track Revox tape recorder. ''Electronic Meditation'' is the only Tangerine Dream album to feature the line-up of Edgar Froese, Klaus Schulze and Conrad Schnitzler.
