The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) is a part of the Office of Justice Programs, within the United States Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Justice. The OVC's mission is to provide aid and promote justice for crime victims. The office was created in 1988 in an USA PATRIOT Act, Title VI#Subtitle B--Amendments to the Victims of Crime Act of 1984, amendment to the Victims of Crime Act of 1984, Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) of 1984. OVC sponsors the annual Crime Victims' Rights Week that promotes victims' rights and services. Jessica E. The Office of Justice Programs (OJP) is an agency of the United States Department of Justice that focuses on crime prevention through research and development, assistance to state, local, and tribal criminal justice agencies, including law enforcement, corrections, and juvenile justice through grants and assistance to crime victims. The Victims of Crime Act of 1984 (VOCA) is United States federal government legislation aimed at helping the victims of crime through means other than punishment of the criminal.
