Osterley
Osterley ( ) is an affluent district of Isleworth in west London, England, from Charing Cross in the London Borough of Hounslow. Most of its land use is mixed agricultural and aesthetic parkland at Osterley House (National Trust), charity-run, much of which is open to paying visitors. Osterley is on elevated soil, bisected by the A4 (Great West Road), and extends north of the M4 motorway. Syon Lane forms the border to the east, while the border with Heston is to the west. Osterley extends south of the A4, including St Mary's Church. Most of the land of Osterley is the large ancestral private estate of Osterley Park (one of the largest open spaces in west London) and its mansion. These were formerly owned by the Jersey family and were used during World War II as the home for Tom Wintringham's Home Guard training school. They are now National Trust property. Osterley House
Osterley Park is a Georgian country estate in west London, which straddles the London boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow. Originally dating from the 1570s, the estate contains a number of Grade I and II listed buildings, with the park listed as Grade II*. The main building (Osterley House) was remodelled by Robert Adam between 1761 and 1765. The National Trust took charge of Osterley in 1991, and the house and park are open to visitors. History Early history The original building on this site was a manor house built in the 1570s for banker Sir Thomas Gresham, who purchased the manor of Osterley in 1562. The "faire and stately brick house" was completed in 1576. It is known that Elizabeth I visited. The stable block from that period remains at Osterley Park. Gresham, the founder of the Royal Exchange, also bought the neighbouring Manor of Boston in 1572. Isleworth Railway Station
Isleworth railway station is located in the London Borough of Hounslow, in west London, and is in Travelcard Zone 4. It is 19 km (12 mi) west-southwest of London Waterloo. The unstaffed station and all trains serving it are operated by South Western Railway. History A temporary station east of Wood Lane, 400 metres east-northeast of the current site, opened as "Hounslow" on 22 August 1849 to allow a service to run until the bridges, embankment, and station buildings were completed. The name was changed to "Smallberry Green" after four months. The present station opened on 1 February 1850 as "Isleworth". It was renamed Spring Grove & Isleworth in 1855 and reverted to Isleworth in August 1911. Syon Lane Railway Station
Syon Lane railway station in Travelcard Zone 4 is on the Hounslow Loop Line and borders the Spring Grove and New Brentford neighbourhoods of the London Borough of Hounslow in west London. Osterley ( ) is a London Underground station in Osterley, west London, England. It is on the Heathrow branch of the Piccadilly line, between Hounslow East and Boston Manor stations. The station is on Great West Road ( A4), close to the National Trust-owned Osterley Park. It is located in Travelcard Zone 4. History Osterley station opened on 25 March 1934. A station at Osterley had first opened in 1883 at Osterley & Spring Grove, located about 300m to the east on Thornbury Road. In June 1931, it had been decided to relocate the station to the west, to a site adjacent to the new Great West Road which had opened in 1925. Upon opening, the Osterley & Spring Grove station was closed, although the station building remained.
