Order Of The Dogwood
The Order of the Dogwood was the province of British Columbia's highest civilian honour for public service from 1966 to 1989, during which time 13 individuals were granted the honour of being appointed to the order. It is named after the Pacific dogwood, which has been British Columbia's provincial flower since 1956. History The predecessor to the Order of the Dogwood, called the Dogwood Medallion, was created by the provincial Crown-in-Council in 1958 to commemorate the centennial of the establishment of the Colony of British Columbia. The Order of the Dogwood was created by order-in-council during a provincial Cabinet meeting held at Fort Langley on November 19, 1966, to mark the centennial of the union of the Colony of British Columbia with the Colony of Vancouver Island. Clarence Wallace
Clarence Wallace (June 22, 1893 – November 12, 1982) was a Canadian shipbuilder and the 18th Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, he fought in World War I and was wounded at Ypres. After the war, he became the president of his father's business, Burrard Dry Dock. During World War II, he built ships for the war and was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1946. From 1950 to 1955, he was the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia. The history of British Columbia covers the period from the arrival of Paleo-Indians thousands of years ago to the present day. Prior to European colonization, the lands encompassing present-day British Columbia were inhabited for millennia by a number of First Nations. Several European expeditions to the region were undertaken in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. After the Oregon boundary dispute between the UK and US government was resolved in 1846, the colonies of Vancouver Island and colony of British Columbia were established; the former in 1849 and the latter in 1858. Nancy Catherine Greene Raine (born May 11, 1943) is a former Canadian Senator for British Columbia and an Olympic alpine champion voted as Canada's Female Athlete of the 20th Century.
