A penalty kick (commonly known as a penalty or a spot kick) is a method of restarting play in association football, in which a player is allowed to take a single shot at the goal while it is defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. It is awarded when an offence punishable by a direct free kick is committed by a player in their own penalty area. The shot is taken from the penalty mark, which is 11 m (12 yards) from the goal line and centred between the touch lines. Derek Watt Adams (born 25 June 1975) is a Scottish football manager and former player who is currently manager of Morecambe. Adams played professionally for six clubs, including Aberdeen and Motherwell, where he made over 300 league appearances during his playing career and has managed over 635 games thus far gaining 4 promotions. Adams became manager of Ross County in 2007, winning promotion from the Scottish Second Division in his first season, before in reaching the Scottish Cup Final two years later. Roy McBain
Roy Adam McBain (born 7 November 1974 in Aberdeen) is a Scottish football player and coach who currently works at Turriff United in the Highland League as a player/assistant manager. Career McBain began his career with Dundee United, making a single appearance early in the 1993–94 season. Released at the end of the season, McBain moved 'across the road' to First Division First Division neighbours Dundee, where he spent two seasons with the Dens Park side. Arild Stavrum
Arild Stavrum (born 16 April 1972) is a Norwegian football coach and former player. His playing career included clubs as Brann, Molde, Stabæk, Helsingborg, Aberdeen and Beşiktaş. Playing career Hailing from Kristiansund, he started his career in local club Clausenengen, and played for another two small clubs Jerv and Nordlandet. He was then picked up by Brann, and later by Molde. At Molde he formed a partnership with Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Ole Bjørn Sundgot known as "the three S'es". He then played one season for Stabæk before going abroad with Helsingborg in Sweden. Playing under former Molde coach Åge Hareide, Stavrum became Allsvenskan top scorer in the 1998 season. Cato Guntveit
Cato Guntveit is a retired Norwegian footballer who played for SK Brann the most of his career. He was the captain of Brann from 2004 until Brann coach Mons Ivar Mjelde decided Martin Andresen should take over the captaincy prior to the 2006 season. Guntveit played briefly for local club Fana before joining Brann in 1995. He also spent two seasons at Aberdeen, but played in Brann from 2002 to 2010. Guntveit is married and has three children. During his youth career, Mann played for St Columba U9s, West Park U10s, Fairmuir u11s to U15s and Dundee United Social Club U16s. William Dodds (born 5 February 1969) is a Scottish football coach and former player who is the manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament. The rules of overtime or extra time vary between sports and even different competitions. Some may employ " sudden death", where the first player or team who scores immediately wins the game. A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any).
