NingboTech University (Traditional Chinese: 浙大寧波理工學院, Simplified Chinese: 浙大宁波理工学院), formerly known as Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University (Traditional Chinese: 浙江大學寧波理工學院, Simplified Chinese: 浙江大学宁波理工学院), is a public university which transformed from an independent technical college formerly affiliated to the Zhejiang University in 2019. Zhejiang University, abbreviated as ZJU or Zheda and formerly romanized as Chekiang University, is a national public research university based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. It is a member of the prestigious C9 League and is selected into the national higher education plans including Double First Class University Plan, Project 985, and Project 211; ZJU is consistently ranked among the top 5 academic institutions in mainland China. Ningbo (; Ningbonese: ''gnin² poq⁷'' , Standard Mandarin pronunciation: ), formerly romanized as Ningpo, is a major sub-provincial city in northeast Zhejiang province, People's Republic of China. It comprises 6 urban districts, 2 satellite county-level cities, and 2 rural counties, including several islands in Hangzhou Bay and the East China Sea. Ningbo is the southern economic center of the Yangtze Delta megalopolis, and is also the core city and center of the Ningbo Metropolitan Area. Ningbo Campus is a campus of Zhejiang University located in the Ningbo Higher Education Park, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. History In 2001, Zhejiang University established the Ningbo Institute of Technology as an independent college, thus acquiring its Ningbo campus. The independent college is a type of collaboration between the public university and the business sector in China, which awards its own degree independently. Since 2019, these colleges have been transformed to be separated from the public university that they are affiliated to.
