The New Zealand men's national tennis team represents New Zealand in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by Tennis New Zealand. New Zealand currently compete in Group II of the Asia/Oceania Zone. They have played in the World Group on 8 occasions, the most recent of which was in 1991. They reached the semifinals in 1982. Alistair Hunt
Alistair Hunt (born 11 November 1972) is a former professional tennis player from New Zealand. Biography Hunt grew up in Christchurch and was the top ranked junior in the country at under 18s level. As a junior he competed in the boys events at all four Grand Slam tournaments. He made the doubles quarter-finals at both the 1989 Australian Open and 1990 French Open, partnering Leander Paes in the latter. On the ATP Tour he made most of his appearances at the Auckland Open, where he first competed in 1996 and featured in each of the next three tournaments. His best finish was the second round in 1998, with a win over world number 53 Daniel Vacek. He played in the main draw of one international tournament, which was the 1997 Bournemouth International. 1908 International Lawn Tennis Challenge
The 1908 International Lawn Tennis Challenge was the eighth edition of what is now known as the Davis Cup. For the first time, ties were held in different countries and at different times, rather than all the matches being played in the same venue, as before. It also marked the first time that a tie was played in Australia. Russell Simpson (born 22 February 1954) is a former tennis player from New Zealand, who won five doubles titles during his professional career. He reached his highest singles ATP ranking on 18 April 1983, when he became No. 47 in the world. Chris Lewis (tennis)
Chris Lewis (born 9 March 1957) is a New Zealand former professional tennis player. Lewis reached the 1983 Wimbledon singles final as an unseeded player. He won three singles titles and achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 19 in April 1984. He also won eight doubles titles during his 12 years on the tour. Lewis was coached by Harry Hopman and Tony Roche. Lewis is the third (and as of 2021 the most recent) man from New Zealand to reach a major singles final, after Anthony Wilding at the 1913 Wimbledon Championships and Onny Parun at the 1973 Australian Open. 1920 International Lawn Tennis Challenge
The 1920 International Lawn Tennis Challenge, more commonly known as the Davis Cup, was the 15th edition of the major international team event in men's tennis. Six nations competed for the right to challenge holders Australasia. The Netherlands joined the competition for the first time. The initial draw consisted of four countries and drew the United States against France and the Netherlands against Great Britain. The applications of Canada and South Africa were received after the deadline but their entries were accepted by the other countries and subsequently a new draw was made. "Big Bill" Tilden and "Little Bill" Johnston made their debut for the United States, and would not lose a rubber the entire tournament. Anthony Wilding
Anthony Frederick Wilding (31 October 1883 – 9 May 1915), also known as Tony Wilding, was a New Zealand world No. 1 tennis player and soldier who was killed in action during World War I. Considered the world's first tennis superstar, Wilding was the son of wealthy English immigrants to Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand and enjoyed the use of private tennis courts at their home. He obtained a legal education at Trinity College, Cambridge and briefly joined his father's law firm. Wilding was a first-class cricketer and a keen motorcycle enthusiast.
