Brooklyn Community Board 3 is a New York City community board that encompasses the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Stuyvesant Heights and Ocean Hill. The New York State Senate is the upper house of the New York State Legislature; the New York State Assembly is its lower house. Its members are elected to two-year terms; there are no term limits. There are 63 seats in the Senate. Partisan composition The New York State Senate was dominated by the Republican Party for much of the 20th century. New York's 8th congressional district for the US House of Representatives is in the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. Its current representative is Hakeem Jeffries. From 1993 to 2013, the district covered much of the west side of Manhattan and western coastal sections of Brooklyn.
