It has been represented by Democrat Shelley Mayer since 2018, following her victory in a competitive special election to succeed fellow Democrat George Latimer, who had recently been elected Westchester County Executive. Rye is a coastal suburb of New York City in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is separate from the Town of Rye, which has more land area than the city. The City of Rye, formerly the Village of Rye, was part of the Town until it received its charter as a city in 1942, making it the youngest city in the State of New York. New York's 17th congressional district is a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives located in Southern New York. It includes all of Rockland County and portions of central and northwestern Westchester County, including the village of Port Chester, the city of White Plains, and the Tappan Zee Bridge. The 16th district includes the northern Bronx and the southern half of Westchester County, including the suburban cities of Mount Vernon, Yonkers, New Rochelle, and Rye.
