Keswick, Virginia
Keswick is a Census-designated place in Albemarle County, Virginia, United States, about six miles east of Charlottesville. Community Keswick has few businesses, and lacks a central business district. It is predominantly residential, with a mixture of large farms, estates, middle-income, and low-income housing. Since many of the parcels of land in Keswick are large, it is relatively undeveloped and retains its natural environment, which includes views of the Southwest Mountains. The drive through Keswick "has often been cited as one of the most scenic in America," writes the ''New York Times.'' Many of the estates were plantations in the 18th century. Earlysville, Virginia
Earlysville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Albemarle County, Virginia, United States, roughly north of Charlottesville. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 1,153. History It is named for John Early (1773–1833), a relative of Confederate general Jubal Early. In 1822, John Early bought just under of land from his father-in-law that now comprise a portion of the town. Earlysville has a small central business district (pictured at right), with a grocery store, restaurant, dentist, daycare, mechanic, and several retail stores. As of January 2019 there remains only a thrift store, an auto repair shop, a United States Post Office, and many churches. There is a nearby light industrial park and several small suburban developments. The bulk of the area is rural in character. Crozet, Virginia
Crozet is a census-designated place (CDP) in Albemarle County in the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States. It sits along the I-64 corridor, about west of Charlottesville and east of Staunton. Originally called "Wayland's Crossing," it was renamed in 1870 in honor of Colonel Claudius Crozet, the French-born civil engineer who directed the construction of the Blue Ridge Tunnel. The cornerstone of Crozet is believed to have been Pleasant Green, a property also known as the Ficklin-Wayland Farm, located yards from the actual Wayland Crossing. Claudius Crozet is said to have lodged in that property while surveying the land that today honors his name. The population of Crozet was 5,565 at the 2010 census. Crozet is part of the Charlottesville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Crozet Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. Virginia State Route 22
State Route 22 (SR 22) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs from U.S. Route 250 in Shadwell east to US 522 and SR 208 in Mineral. SR 22 is one of two primary east–west highways in Louisa County, connecting the county seat of Louisa with Charlottesville and Mineral. The state highway runs concurrently with US 33 through Louisa and with SR 208 between Louisa and Mineral. Route description SR 22 begins at a tangent intersection with US 250 (Richmond Road) in the community of Shadwell in eastern Albemarle County. Shadwell, Virginia
Shadwell is a census-designated place (CDP) in Albemarle County, Virginia. It is located by the Rivanna River near Charlottesville. The site today is marked by a Virginia Historical Marker to mark the birthplace of President Thomas Jefferson. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places along with Clifton. Before early colonists moved into the Shadwell area, Monacan people had trails that traversed what became Shadwell. Peter Jefferson, the father of President Thomas Jefferson established and named the Shadwell plantation in the mid-18th century. Four generations of the Jefferson family lived at Shadwell. Initially, it was a plantation worked by enslaved and free people and grew tobacco, grain, and clover. Then, a grist mill, sawmill, and carding factory expanded the Shadwell economy.
