Novi Ligure Murder
The Novi Ligure murder was a double murder that took place on the evening of 21 February 2001 in Novi Ligure, Piedmont, Italy. Incident Susanna Cassini, a 41-year-old accountant, and her 11-year-old son Gianluca were both stabbed (in total 97 times) in their home while the husband and father, Francesco De Nardo, a 45-year-old manager at the Pernigotti chocolate factory, was playing football with some friends. Had he been home at the time, Francesco would also have died, as the teenage killers had planned to murder him as well. The daughter of the family, 16-year-old Erika De Nardo, originally claimed that the murder was committed by foreign workers in an attempted robbery. Because of her claims, a young Albanian man was detained for a short time. Novi Ligure
Novi Ligure (; lij, Nêuve ; pms, Neuvi ) is a city and ''comune'' north of Genoa, in the Piedmont region of the province of Alessandria of northwest Italy. The town produces food, iron, steel, and textiles. It is an important junction for both road and railroad. History The community of ''Curtis Nova'' in 970 was donated by Emperor Otto I to the monastery of St. Salvatore in Pavia, becoming a castle around the year 1000. Novi was a free commune until 1157, when it fell to Tortona. It was handed over the marquis of Montferrat in 1223, returning briefly to Tortona in 1232–64. In 1353 Giovanni Visconti of Milan and Genoa conquered it. Novi was donated to the latter in 1392, but was occupied by the condottiero Facino Cane in 1409–12. Maria Laura Mainetti
Maria Laura Mainetti (born Teresina Elsa Mainetti; 20 August 1939 – 6 June 2000) was an Italian Catholic sister from the Sisters of the Cross institute. Mother superior of a convent in Chiavenna that specialised in helping juvenile delinquents, she was stabbed to death in a satanic sacrifice by three teenage girls on the night of 6 June 2000. Mainetti's death was declared a martyrdom by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in 2020, and she was beatified on 6 June 2021, the twenty-first anniversary of her murder. Life Teresina Elsa Mainetti was born on 20 August 1939 in Villatico, a frazione of Colico, Lecco, Italy, and was baptised aged two days.
