Next To You (The Police Song)
"Next to You" is a song written by Sting and recorded by The Police as the opening track on their debut album ''Outlandos d'Amour'' in 1978. The band performed the song regularly on its early tours, and Sting later included it during his "Broken Music" tour in 2005–2006. It was the song performed for the second encore during The Police's 2007 Reunion tour. In the Paris show (on 29 September), former band member Henry Padovani joined the band on stage to play this song. "Next to You" is the last song The Police played live together. When Sting originally presented the song to his bandmates, they felt it was neither aggressive nor political enough for the band's early punk sensibility. Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland suggested replacing the lyrics, with Summers offering "I'm going to take a gun to you". Sting vetoed this and kept his original love song lyrics instead. The Police
The Police were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. Within a few months of their first gig, the line-up settled as Sting (lead vocals, bass guitar, primary songwriter), Andy Summers (guitar) and Stewart Copeland (drums, percussion), and this remained unchanged for the rest of the band's history. ''Greatest Hits'' is a 2005 compilation album by the American punk rock band the Offspring, compiling hit singles from five of their first seven studio albums along with the previously unreleased songs " Can't Repeat" and " Next to You", the latter a cover version of The Police song included as a hidden track at the end of the album. Gregory David Kriesel (born January 20, 1965) known by his stagename Greg K., is an American retired musician and the founding bassist of the rock band the Offspring. He is also the co-founder (along with bandmate Dexter Holland) of the record label Nitro Records. Kevin John Wasserman (born February 4, 1963) better known as Noodles, is an American musician who serves as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for the Offspring. He earned the nickname "Noodles" for his frequent ''noodling'' ( improvising) on the guitar. Career Before joining the Offspring, Noodles played in a local band called Clowns of Death along with some friends, including drummer James Lilja. Bryan Keith "Dexter" Holland (born December 29, 1965) is an American musician, best known as the co-founder, lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, main songwriter and composer, and only constant member of the punk rock band the Offspring. He co-founded with former bandmate Greg K. the record label Nitro Records, which he previously owned. Holland holds a PhD in molecular biology. The song is featured as the fourth track on the band's eighth studio album, ''Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace'' (2008), and was released as its first single. Jermone Gregory Finn (March 31, 1969 – August 21, 2008), sometimes credited as "Huckle" Jerry Finn, was an American record producer and mix engineer. He worked with numerous punk rock and pop-punk artists such as Blink-182, AFI, Sum 41, Alkaline Trio, Green Day, MxPx, and Rancid.
