Name And Shame
To name and shame is to "publicly say that a person, group or business has done something wrong". It is a form of public shaming used to rally popular opinion against and, in turn, discourage certain kinds of behavior or enterprises. The practice occurs both at the domestic and the international levels, where naming-and-shaming is often used to denounce unfair business practices or human rights violations. There is some evidence that naming and shaming can reduce atrocities and make the named and shamed governments improve their human rights records. Some scholars, however, question whether naming-and-shaming has the intended effects. Walkergate "Losers" Poster
Walkergate is an area and Ward (country subdivision), electoral ward in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It is in the east of the city, north of Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne, Walker proper, east of the Heaton, Newcastle, Heaton area and west of Wallsend. Areas within the Walkergate ward include Daisy Hill, Eastfield, Walkerdene and Walkerville. Walkergate Metro station which was opened in 1982 serves the area. This replaced the previous railway station on the same site which was originally known as Walker station from 1839 to 1889 when it was renamed Walker Gate station. Walkergate Hospital was built in 1888 originally as a hospital for Infectious Diseases - scarlet fever, diphtheria, typhoid, tuberculosis and later, polio. The architect was A.B. Gibson. The hospital was closed in 2011. In 2012 the Benfield Park Healthcare and Diagnostic Centre was opened on the site of the old Walkergate Hospital. Ostracism
Ostracism (, ''ostrakismos'') was an Athenian democratic procedure in which any citizen could be expelled from the city-state of Athens for ten years. While some instances clearly expressed popular anger at the citizen, ostracism was often used preemptively. It was used as a way of neutralizing someone thought to be a threat to the state or a potential tyrant, though in many cases popular opinion often informed the expulsion. The NSW Food Authority is a statutory authority of the Government of New South Wales responsible for food safety and food labelling regulation in the state, as well as consumer food safety promotion.
