Dickie Goodman
Richard Dorian Goodman (April 19, 1934 – November 6, 1989), known as Dickie Goodman, was an American music and record producer born in Brooklyn, New York. He is best known for inventing and using the technique of the "break-in", an early precursor to sampling, that used brief clips of popular records and songs to "answer" comedic questions posed by voice actors on his novelty records. He also wrote and produced some original material, most often heard on the B-sides of his break-in records. He died from suicide by gunshot on December 6, 1989. Career In June 1956, Goodman created his first record, " The Flying Saucer Parts 1 & II", which he co-wrote with his partner Bill Buchanan, and which was a four-minute rewrite of Orson Welles' '' War of the Worlds'' radio show. This recording was the subject of a copyright infringement case against Goodman. The court eventually ruled his sampled mix was considered a parody and thus an entirely new work. ''Party Time'' is a studio album by The Heptones and backing band The Upsetters, released in January 1977. Along with Junior Murvin's ''Police and Thieves'' and Max Romeo's ''War Ina Babylon'', this album can be seen as part of a Black Ark/Lee "Scratch" Perry produced "holy trinity". Highlights include the title track, a Rasta-influenced cover of Bob Dylan's " I Shall Be Released", the menacing "Storm Cloud", and the determined "Road of Life". After years of being out of print, the album was remastered and re-released on Chris Blackwell's Palm Pictures label in 2003. ''Good Old Boys'' is the fourth studio album by Randy Newman, released on 10 September 1974 on Reprise Records, catalogue number 2193. It was Newman's first album to obtain major commercial success, peaking at number 36 on the ''Billboard'' 200. The premiere live performance of the album took place on October 5, 1974, at the Symphony Hall in Atlanta, Georgia, with guest Ry Cooder and Newman conducting the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Genesis ''Good Old Boys'' was initially envisioned as a concept album about a character named Johnny Cutler, an everyman of the Deep South. Newman made a demo of these songs on February 1, 1973: they were released as the bonus disc for the 2002 reissue, titled ''Johnny Cutler's Birthday''. Albert Johnson (November 2, 1974 – June 20, 2017), better known by his stage name Prodigy, was an American rapper. With Havoc, he was one half of the hip hop duo Mobb Deep. Early life Prodigy was born on November 2, 1974, in Hempstead, New York, on Long Island. He was raised in LeFrak City, in Queens. He had one elder brother, Greg Johnson. (''Mister President'') is a 1946 novel written in Spanish by Nobel Prize-winning Guatemalan writer and diplomat Miguel Ángel Asturias (1899–1974). A landmark text in Latin American literature, explores the nature of political dictatorship and its effects on society. Asturias makes early use of a literary technique now known as magic realism. One of the most notable works of the dictator novel genre, developed from an earlier Asturias short story, written to protest social injustice in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in the author's home town.
