Mossy Cade
Tommories "Mossy" Cade (born December 26, 1961 in Eloy, Arizona) is a former professional American football player who played safety first for the Memphis Showboats of the USFL in 1985 and then for two seasons (1985–86) for the Green Bay Packers. He attended the University of Texas, where he made the 1983 All-American team. Cade was convicted in 1987 of two counts of second degree sexual assault on a woman he was related to through marriage. He was acquitted of a third count, and served 15 months in jail. Upon release, he was signed by the Minnesota Vikings but was quickly released after public outcry over his signing. Mossy Lawler
Mossy Lawler (born 5 April 1980) is an Irish former rugby union player who currently works as a coach. He primarily played as a wing or fullback, but also covered fly-half and centre. Lawler spent most of his playing career with Munster, playing in the Celtic League and Heineken Cup, and also played three games on a trial period for English Premiership side London Wasps in 2008. After leaving the professional game, he continued to play at amateur level in Ireland for Shannon and UL Bohemians, before retiring fully in 2015. Early life Lawler grew up in Limerick. His father Pat died while playing rugby when Lawler was just three years old. His father had played for UL Bohemians from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s, and Lawler started out in rugby with the same club. Tomás 'Mossy' Quinn ( ga, Tomás Ó Cuinn) is an Irish Gaelic footballer from Dublin who plays for the St Vincents club and, formerly, for the Dublin county team. Biography Sometimes known as Mossy Quinn, he attended Ardscoil Rís in Marino. He made his debut for Dublin in the opening match of the 2003 National Football League against Armagh. Mossy O'Riordan
Maurice Francis "Mossy" O'Riordan (1926 - 27 August 2008) was an Irish hurler who played as a right corner-forward for the Cork senior team. Born in Blackrock, County Cork, O'Riordan first played with the Cork senior team at the age of twenty. He made his debut during the 1946 championship. O'Riordan became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won two All-Ireland medals and three Munster medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions O'Riordan won two Railway Cup medals. At club level he played with Blackrock. O'Riordan's brother, Gerry, was a four-time All-Ireland medallist with Cork. Throughout his career O'Riordan made 18 championship appearances. The Battle of Mossy Creek was a minor battle of the American Civil War, occurring on December 29, 1863, in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Background Union Brig. Gen. Samuel D. Sturgis, while encamped at Mossy Creek and forward towards Talbott's Station, received a report on the night of December 28, 1863, that a brigade of Confederate cavalry had gone into camp that afternoon near Dandridge south of Mossy Creek. Surmising that the enemy force was split, Sturgis decided to meet, defeat, and possibly capture the encamped enemy cavalry. Mossy fibers are one of the major inputs to cerebellum. There are many sources of this pathway, the largest of which is the cerebral cortex, which sends input to the cerebellum via the pontocerebellar pathway. Other contributors include the vestibular nerve and nuclei, the spinal cord, the reticular formation, and feedback from deep cerebellar nuclei. Axons enter the cerebellum via the middle and inferior cerebellar peduncles, where some branch to make contact with deep cerebellar nuclei. They ascend into the white matter of the cerebellum, where each axon branches to innervate granule cells in several cerebellar folia. In the hippocampus, the mossy fiber pathway consists of unmyelinated axons projecting from granule cells in the dentate gyrus that terminate on modulatory hilar mossy cells and in Cornu Ammonis area 3 (CA3), a region involved in encoding short-term memory. These axons were first described as mossy fibers by Santiago Ramón y Cajal as they displayed varicosities along their lengths that gave them a mossy appearance. The axons that make up the pathway emerge from the basal portions of the granule cells and pass through the hilus (or polymorphic cell layer) of the dentate gyrus before entering the stratum lucidum of CA3.
