Modern pentathlon was first contested at the Olympic Games at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm. The sport was invented by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games. Gösta Lilliehöök (1884–1974)
Gustaf Malcolm "Gösta" Lilliehöök (25 May 1884 – 18 November 1974) was a Swedish officer and Modern pentathlon, modern pentathlete. He won a gold medal in the first contested modern pentathlon at the Olympic Games in 1912. Career Lilliehöök was born on 25 May 1884 in Stockholm, Sweden, the son of Marshal of the Court (Sweden), First Marshal of the Court Carl Malcolm Lilliehöök and his wife Anna Ekelund. He was commissioned as an officer in Svea Artillery Regiment in 1906 with the rank of ''underlöjtnant''. Lilliehöök was promoted to lieutenant in 1910 and to captain in 1918 after which he was placed in the reserve. He won a gold medal in the first contested modern pentathlon at the Olympic Games in 1912. He later became one of the first five employees of the national Sveriges Radio, Swedish radio. Aarno Almqvist
Arno Axel Almqvist (23 September 1881 – 5 March 1940) was a Finnish colonel and modern pentathlete. Military career Almqvist started his military career at Hamina Cadet School in Finland and then joined the Mikhailovskaya Artillery Military Academy in St. Petersburg. During the First World War he served as a captain at the Kronstadt naval fortress. Carl Aejemelaeus (20 May 1882 – 13 July 1935) was a Finnish colonel, modern pentathlete and fencer. Aejemelaeus was educated in St. Petersburg at the , and Imperial Archaeological Institute.
