The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS; km, ក្រសួងអប់រំ យុវជន និងកីឡា, ) is the government ministry responsible for promoting and regulating education, youth and sport development, in Cambodia. , the Minister of Education, Youth and Sport is Dr. Hang Chuon Naron. The ministry's main offices are in Phnom Penh. History The ministry was established on 24 January 1996, although others date it to 1992 or 1993. In 1999, the Ministry conducted an extensive literacy survey throughout Cambodia. Unlike the 1997 literacy survey done by the Ministry of Planning, which only consisted of yes–no questions according to UNESCO, the 1999 survey included a reading and writing test, and its results revealed that only 37.1% of the adult Cambodian population were functionally literate. The politics of Cambodia are defined within the framework of a constitutional monarchy, in which the king serves as the head of state, and the prime minister is the head of government. The collapse of communism set in motion events that led to the withdrawal of the Vietnamese armed forces, which had established their presence in the country since the fall of the Khmer Rouge. The 1993 constitution, which is currently in force, was promulgated as a result of the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements, followed by elections organized under the aegis of the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia. The Cambodia Daily
''The Cambodia Daily'' is an English and Khmer language news site that writes and aggregates news about Cambodia. It was originally an English-language daily newspaper based in Cambodia from 1993 to 2017, and was considered a newspaper of record for Cambodia. According to the owners, the 2017 closure was the result of a dispute with the Cambodian government over a US$6.3 million tax bill, which was disputed by the newspaper's ownership as politically motivated. The newspaper ceased its daily print newspaper, but still maintains a small online presence, and is no longer located in Cambodia. This is a list of universities in Cambodia. This is the list of universities in Cambodia according to the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport. The Cambodian formal education system ceased to exist and many educated people fled the country or died during the Khmer Rouge era (1975–1979). After the fall of the Khmer Rouge, the education system had to be rebuilt from scratch to become what the modern national education system is today, starting from Grade 1 (at age six) to Grade 12 for a total of 12 years of public general education. The National United Front for an Independent, Neutral, Peaceful and Cooperative Cambodia,; french: Front uni national pour un Cambodge indépendant, neutre, pacifique et coopératif commonly referred to as FUNCINPEC,, ; is a royalist political party in Cambodia. Founded in 1981 by Norodom Sihanouk, it began as a resistance movement against the People's Republic of Kampuchea (PRK) government. Ung Huot
Ung Huot ( km, អ៊ឹង ហួត; born 1 January 1945) is a Cambodian former politician who served from 1997 to 1998 as Prime Minister of Cambodia, alongside Hun Sen. A member of the FUNCINPEC Party, he first served as Minister of Education, and later as Minister of Foreign Affairs before being appointed as Prime Minister. Life and career Ung Huot was born in 1945 in Kandal Province. He studied accounting and finance and was awarded a scholarship to study in Australia in 1971, as Cambodia's civil war was beginning. He received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Melbourne, and became an Australian citizen. He settled in Melbourne and proclaimed himself a leader of the Cambodian expatriate committee in that city. He moved back to Cambodia in 1991 as the communist government was falling, and became a high-ranking official in the FUNCINPEC party.
