Metro (Swedish Newspaper)
''Metro'' was a free daily newspaper in Sweden. It was printed in four editions: Stockholm, Gothenburg, Skåne and National, which were distributed in 67 towns and cities throughout the country. The paper was the first European free paper. On 8 August 2019, its cancellation was announced. History and profile ''Metro Stockholm'' was the first version. The paper was launched on 13 February 1995 and distributed in the Stockholm Metro. Its owner and founding company is Modern Times Group (MTG), a subsidiary of the Swedish conglomerate Kinnevik. The paper is published in tabloid format by Metro International. For a long time, ''Metro'' was the sole free newspaper available in the different metropolitan areas. In 2002, the Bonnier group launched ''Stockholm City'' in the Stockholm region. Metro International
Metro International is a Swedish global media company based in Luxembourg that publishes the ''Metro'' newspapers. Metro International's advertising sales have grown at a compound annual growth rate of 41 percent since launch of the first newspaper edition in 1995. It is a freesheet, meaning that distribution is free, with revenues thus generated entirely through advertising. This newspaper is primarily intended for commuters who move daily in and out of big cities' business areas, mainly during rush hours. The company was founded by Per Andersson and started as a subsidiary of the Modern Times Group along with Viasat Broadcasting. It is now controlled through the Mats Qviberg owned investment company Custos. Free newspapers are distributed free of charge, often in central places in cities and towns, on public transport, with other newspapers, or separately door-to-door. The revenues of such newspapers are based on advertising. They are published at different levels of frequencies, such as daily, weekly or monthly. The paper was founded in 1882 by Charles Coleman (1852–1936) as a free twice-a-week advertising paper in the Northern German town of Lübeck. In 1885 the paper went daily. Martin Kellerman
Martin Kellerman (born 1973 in Växjö) is a Swedish cartoonist, known for the comic strip ''Rocky''. He was influenced by American and Swedish underground cartoonists such as Peter Bagge, Max Andersson, Robert Crumb, Harvey Pekar, Joe Matt and Mats Jonsson. Kellerman states that his work resembles "a mixture between really dark comics and commercial stuff like '' MAD''. That's why to nderground cartoonistsI'm considered a commercial artist." After his girlfriend broke up with him and he was fired from his job as a cartoonist for a pornographic magazine, he created the autobiographical anthropomorphic animal comic strip ''Rocky'', about a grumpy, horny, hip-hop-loving dog and cartoonist living in Stockholm. ''Rocky'' is a Swedish autobiographical comic strip created by Martin Kellerman, focusing on an anthropomorphic dog, Rocky, and his friends in their everyday life in Stockholm. Overview ''Rocky'' is based on Kellerman's own life. According to Kellerman, "My friends are just such perfect cartoon characters. A lot of times they say things and all I have to do is write it down. Their personalities match and complement each other so well, it's impossible not to write it down. If I wait a while, even the upsetting stuff they can still laugh about." Some of the humor draws from hip hop culture, and the dialogue sometimes incorporates English phrases. Kellerman states that "when a Swede says something like Jay-Z would say, that's automatically funny. It's still white here, but in Sweden, it's funnier. Tony Cronstam
Tony Cronstam (born 6 August 1969, Växjö) is a Swedish cartoonist. An illustrator of role-playing games for Target Games during the 1980s, he made his debut as a cartoonist with the future-based strip ''Provet'' (''The Test'') in '' Svenska Serier'' (no. 3/90). In 1990, he began drawing ''Bamse'', and was the principal ''Bamse'' artist between 1998 and 2001. He taught at comic school from 1999 to 2004. Together with Maria Cronstam, he created the comic strip '' Elvis,'' in 2000, for publication in '' Metro Stockholm''. ''Elvis'' won the prestigious Adamson Award in 2004.
