Victorian Legislative Assembly
The Victorian Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Victoria in Australia; the upper house being the Victorian Legislative Council. Both houses sit at Parliament House in Spring Street, Melbourne. The presiding officer of the Legislative Assembly is the Speaker. There are presently 88 members of the Legislative Assembly elected from single-member divisions. History Victoria was proclaimed a Colony on 1 July 1851 separating from the Colony of New South Wales by an act of the British Parliament. The Legislative Assembly was created on 13 March 1856 with the passing of the ''Victorian Electoral Bill'', five years after the creation of the original unicameral Legislative Council. Electoral District Of Gembrook
The electoral district of Gembrook was an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was situated on the edge of metropolitan Melbourne. Included within its boundaries were Emerald, Cockatoo, Gembrook, Beaconsfield, and sizeable parts of Berwick and Pakenham. The district formerly extended north to Yarra Valley communities such as Warburton and Launching Place prior to the seat's redistribution at the 2014 election. The electorate was created in 2002, replacing the abolished electorates of Pakenham (which had its namesake moved into Bass) and Berwick. It was widely considered to be a safe Liberal seat, and was to be contested by Shadow Treasurer Robert Dean, formerly the member for Berwick. Electoral District Of Gippsland East
The electoral district of Gippsland East is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It covers most of eastern Victoria and includes the towns of Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Orbost, Omeo, Maffra and Heyfield. Gippsland East is the state's third largest electorate in area and covers 27,544 square kilometres. The National Party held the seat without interruption from 1920 to 1999. However at the 1999 election independent candidate Craig Ingram unexpectedly won the seat after receiving preferences from the independent, One Nation and Labor candidates. Ingram's victory affected state politics—Ingram and fellow Independents Susan Davies and Russell Savage contributed to the end of the Kennett era by agreeing to back Labor to form government after the 1999 election. The National Party of Australia – Victoria is a political party in Victoria, which forms the state branch of the federal Nationals. Historically, it represented graziers, farmers and rural voters. However, the modern National Party no longer represents these traditional interests; shifting its focus to support the mining industry and as a result, ignoring the challenges faced by rural communities and farmers struggling with the effects of climate change and mining practices such as fracking. The Victorian Farmer's Union formed in 1914 was the precursor to the Victorian Country Party, later the Nationals. Tim Bull
Timothy Owen Bull (born 9 December 1966) is an Australian politician. He has been a National Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since 2010, representing the electorate of Gippsland East. He served as Minister for Local Government and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs in the Napthine Ministry from March to December 2014. Biography Bull grew up in Metung, Victoria on the Gippsland Lakes where he attended Metung Primary School and then Nagle College, Bairnsdale. Bull was a newspaper editor, sports program coordinator with the Australian Sports Commission and community advocate in the area of disability services before entering parliament. Prior to entering politics Bull was a country sportsman of note, captaining the Bairnsdale Cricket Association (BCA) team for a number of years and winning three BCA cricketer of the year titles. The electoral district of Broadmeadows is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It covers an area of in outer northern Melbourne, and includes the suburbs of Broadmeadows, Campbellfield, Coolaroo, Dallas, Fawkner, Jacana and Meadow Heights. It also includes parts of Glenroy, Roxburgh Park, Somerton and Westmeadows. It lies within the Northern Metropolitan Region of the upper house, the Legislative Council. The seat was created in 1955, and though it was initially won by Liberal and Country member Harry Kane, has been a safe Labor seat for most of its history. Kane held the seat until his death in 1962, and was succeeded by Labor backbenchers John Wilton (1962–1985) and Jack Culpin (1985–1988). John Brumby
John Mansfield Brumby (born 21 April 1953) is the current Chancellor of La Trobe University and former Victorian Labor Party politician who was Premier of Victoria from 2007 to 2010. He became leader of the Victorian Labor Party and premier after the resignation of Steve Bracks. He also served as the Minister for Veterans' Affairs and the Minister for Multicultural Affairs. He contested his first election as premier at the November 2010 Victorian state election. His government was defeated by the Liberal/National Coalition led by Ted Baillieu. Bundoora is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It covers an area of in north-eastern Melbourne, encompassing the suburbs of Bundoora, Kingsbury, Watsonia and Watsonia North, and parts of Greensborough, Macleod, Mill Park and Yallambie. It also includes the central campus of La Trobe University. It lies within the Northern Metropolitan Region of the upper house, the Legislative Council. Colin William Brooks (born 9 January 1970) is an Australian politician. He has been a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since 2006, representing the electorate of Bundoora. Gary John Blackwood (born 6 June 1951) is a former Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly between November 2006 and November 2022, representing the electorate of Narracan. Early life Blackwood was born and raised in Warragul.
